My husband and I will be traveling in September 2026. Spending 3 days in Paris and 4 days in the Normandy area with Calais as our base. We will fly into Paris take a train to Calais and rent a car. I need help with the Basque area itinerary. Should we fly from Paris to Barritz and then travel by car/bus to San Sebastian? We will visit Rouncevalle to check out my husband's family roots. I'm also wondering if it would be best to fly home to the US from Barcelona or Madrid or go back to Paris?

Hi Donna, and welcom to the forum.
Take a look at flying from Paris to Bilbao, and then renting a car there.
Another possibility would be to take the train to Hendaye from Paris, the high speed train can get you there in just over 4 hours. At the Hendaye station there is a stop for the Euskotren which can take you to San Sebastian and you can rent a car there.
About flying home, check to see how the flights out of Bilbao are for your destination.
Did you mean Roncesvalles for Rouncevalle? If so, you might want to stay in Pamplona. There are buses from Irun, next to Hendaye, that can take you to Pamplona.
