On our regretably short trip to Paris, the only day we can go to Musee D'Orsay is on a Sunday. Do you recommend going at the earliest available or later in the day in May. Thank you.

I'd also vote for as early as you can get reservations...preferably for the opening time slot. You are going the end of May, right? To me the museums in Europe are not as well air-conditioned as I want so they can get warm and stuffy by the afternoon and May afternoons may be warmish.
If you are not going to do the special exhibitions, when you enter the museum, proceed straight thru the ground floor and head toward the back wall of the building. Veer to the left (after you pass the sculptures in the central area) and you will find an escalator behind a wall that will take you up to the 5th floor where the Impressionists gallery is located. This is an area that gets really busy so I like to do it first!
As of today ticketing is only open thru the 19th of May so I'd be sure to check frequently over the next couple of weeks to see when your dates come open.
