Paris neighbourhood for 3 nights?

On our way back to Canada via Paris we will be spending 3 nights in Paris. We'll arrive in Orly on July 31st, plan on going to Versailles on the 1st, and fly out of CDG on the 2nd. I'm looking for suggestions on what area to stay. I was thinking the 15th, but if someone is familiar with specific metro stations that would benefit us, that would help in trying to choose a place. FWIW, we're kind of 2-star people, hoping to keep a room for 4 under $220US per night. Sort of.

On our first way through Paris (4 nights) we're staying between the 2nd and 3rd, off of Boulevard de Sebastopol

thanks!

If you stay in the 5th/6th near the St-Michel metro/St-Michel Notre-Dame RER station you would be well positioned to take the RER C to Versailles and the RER B to CDG. I can't suggest a particular hotel, but maybe someone else can.

If you want to stay in the 15th I can recommend the Home Moderne, which is good value for money. The neighbourhood is very little touristed but quiet and upmarket.

If you arrive on July 31st and depart on August 2, that is two nights not three. Your idea of staying in the 15th is a good one for a good quality hotel room and the Home Moderne would be an excellent choice and you will have AC (see below). You could probably get two rooms at the Hotel Apollon Montparnasse in your budget and it has AC (see below). A quad for under 200€ per night near Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame during peak season booked this close to the travel date is going to be hard to find. That being said, take a look at Hotel Saint Andre des Arts. Whatever its issues and there are many, it is in a great location and it's only two nights. The tradeoff will be location over finishes and AC. Why am I so obsessed with AC? Right now we are in a major heat wave in Paris (I have American style AC in my place and I am heading out of town right now even with that). I'd hate for you to be here for even two nights with the heat we are having since Tuesday without having AC in your accommodations.
