Can anyone point me to information on the new security restrictions on the size and type of shoulder bags and backpacks that have been put in place on entering public places like museums in Paris?

The official website for the Paris Museum Pass is very informative: http://en.parismuseumpass.com
You may click on "Museums & Monuments" (top right), then click on, "by name", then choose the museum you want to visit, & read their specific website for more information.

This looks like the most pertinent info for the Louvre: http://www.louvre.fr/en/hours-admission. I don't understand that to say that won't still have their coat check areas operating, but I guess you have to be prepared for all scenarios.
