I will be in Paris for most of the month of December. It would be nice to be able to come and go to the various museums, yet the Paris Museum pass only lasts a few days at best. I read a suggestion about annual membership (at least for the Louvre) which might make sense for one museum but not all!! Do any of the Paris museums possibly offer reciprocal agreements with annual memberships? Any suggestions?
I haven't looked at this for a long time but there used to be an annual card good for benefits at some World Heritage sites through ICOMOS:
The U.S. site above doesn't list the attractions that provide free or reduced entry but the Australian site does:
http://australia.icomos.org/get-involved/membership/full-member-benefits-icomos-card/
Do note this disclaimer:
"Please note that, while Australia ICOMOS cannot guarantee these sites/museums will honour the card, our members have reported success gaining entry with the card in the past"
Maybe someone else knows more about this one?
If you are a teacher or a journalist you can get a Louvre membership for about 35 Euro. You can also get a membership as a 'Friend of the Louvre' for much more than that. Back when we spent 2 mos at a time in Paris and I had such a card it was a great deal; the professional membership allowed a guest on Weds or Friday nights and so my husband and I went to the Louvre once or twice a week for a couple of hours on Weds and/or Friday evenings. I think a membership would make sense for a month's visit. And think of the cost as a donation to something important. We always get a family membership to the Art Institute of Chicago, partly because we enjoy visits but also because we want to support art.
I don't think there are reciprocal member agreements for Paris Museums.
There is another option, with 14 City museums on the list, which allows you to skip the line and have access to multiple entries on the same day:

I believe that most of these are covered by the Paris Museum Pass, though.
It might be worth your while to get both the pass I mentioned, since there is no time limit on it, then purchase a couple of multi-day Paris Museum Passes and use to fill in the time you have.
Note that Musee Carnavalet has been closed since 3 October 2016 and will remain closed for about 3 years.
Since you will be in Paris for some time, it might work to buy a 2-day Museum Pass, maximize the use of it for the two days, then spend several days doing other things. When you are ready for more museums, you could buy another two day pass, maximize it's use, etc. This would make more sense to me than buying a six day pass, which has to be used for consecutive days. That way you could spread out your museum visits.
Hi moorepolly, I think that Carolyn offered a great suggestion. I don't have a better one, but I wish I had your problem! A month in Paris sounds wonderful!
Thank you Carolyn for the great suggestion! I would have never thought of that!
I don't think multiple 2-day passes make any sense -
2-day pass €48 (€24/day)
4-day pass €62 (€15.50/day)
6-day pass €74 (€12.33/day)
Depending on how many sights covered by the pass you want to see, it could be worthwhile to buy 2 6-day passes or one "4" and one "6". BTW the Louvre annual membership is €80.
As Chani's info makes clear, buying two day passes is enormously wasteful -- The per day cost is half if you buy the longer pass.
I'd get a museum pass for 6 days for a wide variety of museums and then probably try to get a membership in the Louvre or the d'Orsay.
Right. The 6-day pass - which we have used - would be much more economical than several 2-day passes. I like the idea of just purchasing several 6-day passes and visiting free attractions/attractions not covered by the pass in the weeks in between. With a month to spend, you may want to take some days trips to locations where a pass wouldn't be of use anyway.
A little perspective? 12 days of Paris Museum Pass (2, 6-day passes) is still $40 less than just a 2-day adult Disney ticket in the States; for WAY better things to do, IMHO. What a bargain! :O)
