I am traveling to Paris with my two kids, ages 13 and 9, in November. I have read conflicting information about the museum fees for kids. Some websites say kids under 18 are free. But some indicate that "free" is only for kids who live in the EU. I am thinking about buying the 2-day Paris Museum Pass, but I am unsure if I need a pass for my kids. Has anyone had issues getting their American kids in for free at Paris museums?
We had no problems getting our American kids in for free while we used our Paris Museum Passes. For sights that require a timed reservation, book a free reservation for kids at the same time. The Army Museum requires that you stop at their front desk and pick up a free pass for the kids to scan at each wing. There are a couple of museums that aren't free for kids (the space museum is the one I remember). Some say that you should have ID documents with you to prove the kids are under 18; this is especially a concern for 17 year olds.
I think when free is only for within the EU is for 18-25 year olds (or maybe 18-25 year old students).
There is no controversy about this or conflicting information. All kids 17 and under are free in Paris Museums. Museums that require advance tickets usually have the option of free ticket reservations. For museums that don't require reservations the kid usually just walks in with you -- the Arc du Triomphe and Invalides require that a free ticket for kids be obtained.
