On the PMP website, it says "By purchasing the pass online*, you will receive an e-ticket by email that you can print at home or download to your smartphone. You will then just have to present it at the checkpoints of each site you visit." The RS pocket guide I have (2019), and all the other forum posts I've read say to buy it when you get there. Has anyone used the digital version?
I think the advice to buy it when you get to Paris was to assure folks there are not limited numbers and they don’t need to fork out the $$ for shipping the paper pass.
Over the last couple of weeks as I was in/out of museums I saw signs saying there was availability of the e-pass. Most people seem to have their tickets on their phones anyway so I wouldn’t have been able to tell if they were using an ePass or a purchased ticket.
As always, run the numbers to see if the pass works financially for you. With the big museums needing timed reservations the lines that you used to encounter are mostly gone except for back up at security.
The 2019 guide book was written before the epass was available - its a new thing this year. When I went in December it wasn’t available and I opted to pay the extra money to have it delivered to my hotel.
ah, a duplicate from Reddit.
all of the museums I went to used e tickets for their museum's time slots - and manually scanned the physical PMP when I was there. I would think a swap to an e ticket would be no big deal for them.
I had the same question. If I purchase the e-ticket Museum Pass, and download it, will it have the 9 digit number, so I can reserve times? I am traveling in early summer, when crowds are at peak and would prefer not taking the chance of waiting until I arrive in France
I went ahead and bought it online. They give you a PDF of the pass, with the pass number and barcode on it. I saved it to my phone. And, I used that number to reserve timed-entry to some places. My trip is in June. I'll try to update this topic afterward with any insights about the eticket.
@davebflat - you've always been able to reserve a time before PMP purchase, just put like 9 or 10 0s in the PMP slot.
skunklet...thanks!! I think, like OP, for us that have little choice but to travel in high season, it's comforting to get the PMP and barcode directly to our phone instead of inputting 9 random digits that can be altered when we arrive in Paris. Part of the fun of planning and overplanning is maximizing time, purchases, and just feeling like you have a head start before traveling I high season. Having the eticket is 1 less thing to carry around, particularly while staying in 6 cities
Can someone help me understand how I get a timed reservation for a museum like the Musee Rodin with the museum pass? Leaving in 10 days.
for PMP holders, no need for ticket, you just show at the gate; same w Orsay.
We used the digital pass in July. I saved it and all our tickets to the google drive app on my phone and downloaded for offline use. Would recommend a second person in your group have it available just in case your phone runs out of battery, just FYI.
Having the e-pass was slightly awkward when going to places that also required a timed entry (Sainte Chapelle, Louvre, and Versailles) since they had to scan both the PMP and the entry. But, it really wasn't an issue, the workers knew what to expect and were quite efficient, and was very handy to not have to carry another piece of paper. I didn't buy until we were leaving for Paris, which also meant I got a better exchange rate given that the euro dropped relative to the dollar, compared to if I had bought further out. But, obviously that can change.
I was actually pretty impressed that we had little to no issues scanning tickets on my phone the entire time of our trip - we didn't use paper tickets anywhere.

I went to the official website for the Paris Museum Pass and bought it online ahead of time. So easy. I got an email and with it the download to put on my phone (an e-ticket) or the ability to print it out. I am in Paris now. The e-ticket is so easy. I got all my tickets ahead of time for busy places like the Louvre (I just reserved a free ticket because it is included with Paris Museum pass) , Versailles before I came. Been a life safer. I’ve been able to see more because I’m not standing in line to buy tickets. And everything was paid for before I got here.
