We are a family of four traveling to Europe in June and will be spending 4 days in Paris. We have Rick's Paris book and so were were thinking about purchasing Museum Passes. However, our two boys are 15 and 17. Rick's book says it's not worth it to buy Museum Passes for teens because they get discounted or free museum tickets. Is there a teen pass or should we just get tickets for them at the museums? Thanks.
The Museum Pass website says most of the sites the pass covers admit under-18s free. There's no separate teen pass. For most covered sites, the teens will just go in with the adults who show their passes, bypassing the ticket line (but not the security line, if any). Some sites give free tickets to teens, meaning they'd have to stand in line for them, but the website says these sites aren't crowded so the wait is short.
In other words, get your passes for mom and dad and the kids will just come in with you. They may have to show passports or other proof of age.
The website has good advice about activating your passes, picking the dates so you don't get caught on days museums are closed, etc.
Just bring the kids in with you. Be sure your kids have ID like at least a photo copy of their passport because it is possible that kids nearly old enough to require tickets might be asked to show ID. With our 14 year old daughter, it was not an issue, but it might very well be with a 17 year old or a 15 year old who is big for his age.
Thank you both for the advice.
