Paris Museum Pass

Is there any advantage to the museum pass beyond the ticket prices (for instance skipping lines)? I have run the numbers and neither the 2 day or 4 day is a benefit to us strictly on the ticket prices for the sights we are going to see on those days.

This may not be as big a plus now as it used to be, but it is a great way to find a restroom. Just pop any of the museums covered by the pass and there is always a clean restroom.

And if you 'pop' into a museum to use the can, you have used up your only entrance to that museum. There is no advantage to the pass unless you save a bunch of money. You still need reservations at the Louvre and some other museums and there is no line advantage over just having a ticket on your phone. so if you are planning on a museum intensive few days and you save money, it is worth getting, otherwise not.

Pre-Covid, my daughter and I visited Paris and got the Museum Pass. It was great! Fast and easy entry, skipping lines. I would not hesitate to use it again. I'm sure it was a little more expensive but it was 100% worth it to me. I enjoy museums and don't mind supporting them.

Hint: we enjoyed the Picasso Museum and a smaller nearby one called Musée Cognacq-Jay, literally up the road in the Marais. They were two of our favorites.

Have a great time.

Except some museums, you can't just pop into -- you have to make a timed reservation. I have no idea the proportion of those among all the sites included with the Pass. It may be small. But it is nonzero.

Everything is different since COVID. I am the master of not standing in line; I always know the tricks. Most of those are useless now because everyone has a reservation. The Museum Pass was never better than just having a ticket ahead for skipping lines, but now when everyone has a ticket ahead even the lines that used to be short like the pre-ticket line at the Orsay are long. There are still a few strategies that often work but it is not as easy as it was.

And the Museum Pass people changed the product so there is only one entry per museum thus eliminating the one element that made it irresistible.

I agree with Kim and Janet. And will add that when the Museum Pass started to change in summer 2019 with timed entries needed for the Louvre and then really changed over Covid it became not worth it to me. The ground has indeed shifted and while it might have been a useful product in the past, it's not now.

Particularly at the Louvre there are a certain number of timed entry Museum Pass slots each day or time slot. Once those are gone then there are still slots available for those who pay for entry. In the past some have posted here shocked because they were not able to get a timed entry with their Museum Pass to this museum. I've not seen others get caught by this.

@veryspecialquilts....if you return to Paris you will want to look closely at this product to see if it's still as useful to you as before. My visits are very museum heavy and I've gone strictly to purchasing entries directly from the museums, either timed entry ahead of time or at the venue if it's a museum that doesn't require timed entries.
