Paris/ montmartre safety?

Hi heading to Montmartre the end of May. We are a bit concerned about the riots and trash issues and need to change our plans now if necessary. Any feedback?

I was just there in early April and stayed at a hotel in Montmartre for 5 nights. There was a lot of trash on the curbs the day I arrived but it was all picked up over the next 2 days. When there were demonstrations (I wouldn't call them "riots"), they weren't in that area but instead closer to the Seine and nearby squares. I didn't feel unsafe walking around during the day by myself even when I walked past some small demonstrations (on the other side of the street or a block away). As always, just stay aware of your surroundings and exercise some common sense. You'll also need to be a bit flexible in the event the protests and related strikes affect the Metro or operating hours of some venues (such as a labor shortage at the Louvre did during my visit). Don't let your concern keep you from enjoying your time in Paris!

The “riots” you see on the news are largely an invention of the media. They thrive in sensationalizing the news to attract viewers.

Thanks everyone. And please forgive me for saying riots instead of demonstrations! Just wanting to make sure about my travel plans as it is harder to get international news except for big headlines. No insult intended.
