My family of four will be arriving in Paris Saturday morning at Charles de Gaulle. We would like to take the metro to our VRBO. We will be there until Wednesday and would like to be able to use the metro throughout those days. . Which is the correct metro pass to buy? Would you recommend getting the mobile app or a physical pass?
You can buy batches of 10 tickets from machines in the metro stations. Good on both the metro and on city buses.
I should add that with 4 people, you can get a fixed price taxi from CDG to your hotel in Paris for 55 EUR for Right Bank locations, and 62 EUR for Left Bank locations. The public transport from CDG to Paris is by RER train and costs 11.45 EUR per person, so the taxi is well worth it for the convenience of door-to-door service with your luggage.
The métro does not reach CDG. From the airport the most commonly used options are either taxi, from the official taxi queue, or the train (RER with included métro connections to your destination).
It would be helpful to know specifically where your accommodates are but generally, tickets t+ will work will for your transportations needs in Paris. The ticket t+ costs 2.10€ but if you purchase the Navigo Easy card (2€), you can load up to 10 electronic tickets for 16.90€. The ticket t+ is valid on the RER, limited to Paris or zone 1, as well as on city buses, the métro, tramway and funicular. If you have an Android phone, electronic tickets t+ may also be loaded onto your phone using either the Bonjour RATP app or the Île-de-France Mobilité app and a linked credit card.
There are no pass options that ideally fit within your intended stay.
We are staying in the Latin quarter close to Notre Dame. Is the fixed price 62€ taxi for all 4 passengers from CDG or is it more per person?
Fixed price for the group. Now you may have to wait a while to get a taxi big enough to hold all 4 plus luggage.
Fixed price is for 4 people and luggage. IF there are more e.g. 5 or 6 then it is 4 Euro a head for each extra person above 4.
There are always plenty of large cabs at the airport; the dispatcher will bring one up from the basement queue if need be.
Just to note there are fewer and fewer metro stations where you can buy paper carnets of 10 metro tickets, as the RATP is phasing this out. They have eliminated the possibility in about half the stations and plan to finish with the other half during 2023. So you may find a machine that will sell you a carnet, or you may not.
For getting around on the metro once you have gotten to your lodging via taxi, you can either buy individual paper tickets from the machines (or carnets if you happen to be at a station that sells carnets); another option is to buy each person a Navigo Easy card for 2€ and then load the tickets on there.
You can only buy tickets in the app and use them from your phone if your phone is Android. Paris isn’t very advanced in this regard, so I would either buy individual tickets, or buy the Navigo Easy cards and load tickets on them.
