We are headed to Paris in November and wondering if anyone has any opinions/suggestions for visiting the new Louis Vuitton Foundation in the Bois de Bologne.
Is it located in the old mansion formerly belonging to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor?
No, I believe it is a modern building designed by Frank O Gehry.
Yes, it is a beautiful modern building. Are you looking for directions to the Fondation? My preferred way to get there is to take the FLV's shuttle. It leaves from Place Charles de Gaulle near Avenue Friedland (near the Metro exit) every 15 minutes and costs 2€. It operates during FLV's hours.
There's a huuuuge exhibit from MOMA there now, check out their website and buy tickets in advance.
As JHK says, the shuttle is probably easy (there is information about it on the website as well).
It's a spectacular place outside, but inside it depends on travelling exhibits since the museum does not hold a significant collection of its own yet. The Metro stops about a 15-minute walk away. Fans of Gehry might want to see his much earlier Paris work, redesigning the Cinematheque francaise. To my untrained eye it exhibits almost none of the audacious flamboyance which, rather late in life, has made him famous. http://www.cinematheque.fr/
Note that the shuttle from Etoile is now only available if you have a prebooked online ticket for the Foundation. I suspect people were using it as normal public transport and it was getting overloaded.
Thanks to JHK and to Phillip for advice on getting there. Thanks Kim - I am excited to see the MOMA exhibit! And thanks to Southam for the referral to the Cinematheque Francaise. All of your replies are much appreciated!
In the MoMA exhibit, my son's The Newsstand is there! It was originally a newsstand on the 7 line in Brooklyn for a bit more than a year. Then in November 2015, it was part of the MOMA's official exhibit as part of the Ocean of Images: New Photography for 5 months. Many of the original zines, vending machine, displays and volunteer staff helped explain the concept over the many months.
The MoMA purchased it as part of their permanent collection, and voila - it is now in Paris!
Do go, it is a wonderful building - you will be captivated.
Several of the original designers (my son) will be at a special event there the evening of November 3rd.

Congratulations Mama Gail!
It's wonderful to have an offspring in the arts and to see his/her work appreciated.
Is it temporary or will it be permanent, like Barney's Beanery, once back at MOMA?
Bravo!
I'm not really sure where it will go next, Bets. Part of their permanent collection, so I guess they do as they wish. It's pretty cool they've asked Brian and Lele to come set it up properly and be there on the 3rd. Very proud!
