Paris Lodging Suggestions Needed

First time to Paris and looking for an area for lodging that isn't dodgy and is more than large hotels and apartments. Going this fall if that makes a difference.

You will find all sorts of suggestions here on the forum. So far we know you are looking for a good neighborhood that isn't too modern. What we don't know is what kind of budget you are looking for and what sorts of things you want to see and do in Paris.
I've stayed at these three hotels

I can recommend all three.

Not sure what areas of Paris you believe are dodgy. There are large hotels all over Paris, and virtually every street in the city has apartments above the ground levels. This is where people live.

Perhaps the best way to approach lodging questions is to clearly state your intended budget window, how many people are included, and when you are visiting. Pricing can change notably depending upon season and without some idea about your budget, people will be making suggestions which may not fulfill your needs.

We loved our stay here; will stay again next time. There are lots of options, I personally like 5/6th for home base.

@Tocard - thanks for the tips. Looking for a low to mid-level priced hotel/small inn for 2. We plan to see Paris for the first time this fall (dates not firmed yet). Would like a nice home base where we can call home for a week.

tell us which arrondissement you are looking for, if you don't know you should start with that (Rick's book is just chockful of that kind of info)

What does low to mid-price mean to you? Be prepared for how expensive Paris is.

Almost every street in Paris will have apartments from the second floor up.

I stayed at this Airbnb for five nights recently. It is charming and really close to Notre Dame and street is safe. It is also close to metro stops and restaurants and amazing bakery. I wrote an extensive review on the listing page (I think it showed up already). It cost more to check out on Sunday (a property management firm does it for the owner). Best for just two people since the sofa bed isn't comfortable. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6010997?source_impression_id=p3_1648672623_hX114mgJqIQ0OgeU

We've stayed at the Hotel des Deux-Iles and will do so again primarily for the location. It isn't a modern building with regard to the outside, but the inside is more that up to date. And the location isn't dodgy by any means.
Staying on Ile St. Louis is as centrally located as one can be. Cross the river and you will be in the Marais -- cross it the other way and you'll be in The Latin Quarter. Walk to the end of the island, cross the bridge, and you'll be at the back of Notre Dame -- such as it is now as some of the immediate area is closed off. The Metro is near enough that getting anywhere is not a problem. If you stay there we can tell you about a great breakfast place nearby as the hotel breakfast seems a bit overpriced for what it includes.

jeri.veickerman - please state your budget window in euros. Low to mid-level priced hotel/small inn for 2 only tells me you are a couple and are not interested in Palais class hotels. I would interpret low to mid as being from 110 euros to 250 euros per night, which encompasses probably most of the hotels in Paris. Which end of this scale is appropriate for you?
