Paris lodging in early June

Hello everyone,

I’m looking at going to Paris for the first two weeks of June to do some research at the Archives Nationales and the BNF and potentially speaking an academic workshop and I’m looking for suggestions for lodging that are quite economical. Last time I was there in October on a research trip I was able to get by in an Airbnb for $150 a night. Ideally I’d like that to be the max again, though I recognize that the Olympics are causing a rise in rates. I’m concerned about the impact that Airbnb has on the local housing stock for local residents so I’m inclined to try to avoid it this time, or at least be more particular in which options I choose, though I’m not sure where else to look as most of the hotels that I’ve looked at have been out of my budget. I would also like to avoid a hostel. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I suggest looking at AirBnb but limiting yourself, given your concerns, to places that look like they are being rented by an owner who lives in the space and rents it out within the scope of the rules for such rentals (max of 90 days per year and mandatory registration with the city). That way, you know that you are not part of a process of removing housing from the permanent residents but instead are renting from someone who rents out their space for a certain amount of time each year. That registration number that I referred to above should have 13 digits beginning with 75 and should be included in the listing.

Between the Olympics and Paris’s crackdowns on rentals, all cheap rentals/hotels have probably been booked for that period since last summer. There are a few options on booking.com with no reviews (which would make me suspicious). The other option would be to look farther outside the main part of the city.

Maybe someone associated with the workshop can suggest something?
