Paris Lodging

I am taking my wife and granddaughter to France in May, a HS graduation present for her. This is her first international exposure (except Disney World in Orlando where she grew up). I'm looking for a 2 or3 bedroom apartment, townhome or house in the city rather than two hotel rooms. We like shopping at open air markets and cooking some of our meals instead of eating out all of the time. It has been 11 years since my last trip to Paris and we have 8 1/2 days to fill once we are there, and not all has to be in Paris. I would like to expose her to some rural France as well. Right now, it's just the usual biggies in Paris and the Palace of Versailles. Even toyed with the idea of five days in Paris and a train to London for a couple of days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’ve used two apartment agencies and would recommend either of them

  1. Guest Apartment Services. Most apartments are on the islands. Very well maintained, there’s an office that works like a hotel front desk. Unfortunately they only do checkin on Saturday, Sunday or Monday

  2. Vacation in Paris. Based out of NJ. Apartments all over the city and are fairly described on the website. Flexibility is great on check in and check out

I'd skip London (even though I love it) and just enjoy Paris and countryside with that amount of time! Plan to visit Giverny. Take a day exploring Montmarte and take her to lunch at Maison en Rose. So many things involve advance tickets; so do check out websites to know when tickets are on sale for the dates you will be there. Do not miss St Chapelle; the Louvre, Le Orangerie; Musee d'Orsay...all require advance planning.

I'd take the train from Paris and plan to spend a day visiting Mont St Michel. Or even better, spend a couple of nights in Brittany; or one night on MSM. Has she seen All The Light We Cannot See? Visit St. Malo and Dinan. (We rented a car at Rennes train station and drove, but there are other suggestions on this forum how to get there.)

Hopefully you'll get many other countryside suggestions from others as well.
