we will be in Paris the first week in April. We are interested in hiring a local guide for interior tour of Notre Dame de Paris. How do we go about that? Any suggestions for local guides or entry into Notre Dame.
Entry is free but you should book on their website. (Hint, if the site tries to charge you, you are on scam site.. back away)
Hm, I posted a comment with answers to your question, then I edited a formatting issue and after I clicked Save and refreshed the page, my comment disappeared. I tried to reposted it, but it says it's already posted and I can't post it twice. Let me know if you can't see it. But if you can see it, then ignore this comment!
Hi Emily, I did receive your first post, though it does not show up on my forum. But I have the email. We would like to inquire about an exterior tour with you, time, rates etc for 2 people. DENISE
Hi Denise,
I will send you a private message about tours. That's strange about my comment! (If any of the forum Mods happen to see this and are either able to restore it, or let me know if I accidentally did something that got it removed, that would much appreciated!)
I expect the reason your post keeps disappearing is that you failed to read the rules you agreed to when you signed up. You’re not allowed to come on here and sell your tours.
You asked on your other posts if you had broken the rules, so yes, Emily, you did break the rules that you had agreed to when signing up for this site. You already eliminated direct solicitation, a first step.
The web master will contact you tomorrow to help you remove all references to being a guide, offering your services, and whether you can contact people by pm.
Several professional guides post here, but they never mention their services, their backgrounds, nor their motivations and neither does anyone who knows them personally. If other guides joined you sending pm offers of services, there would be hundreds inundating posters with pm. The web master will explain how you can help others without crossing the line.
If that doesn't interest you, there are other sites like Les Frenchies Travel Tips.
Hi Carol and Elizabeth!
Thank you for your responses. I sincerely apologize for breaking any rules. I just found it curious that I had a technical issue with the comment on this post, but not any previous ones.
I'm aware that I just joined and I fully respect that you're both frequent contributors to this forum and that you've been here much longer than me, but I want to provide some clarity on my comments and why I joined. I'm not at all trying to be augmentative or confrontational, only to provide context and hopefully clear the air a bit.
Selling/advertising was truly not my motivation for joining. I discovered this forum by accident when I came across multiple comments/posts that referenced me and a post I had made on another site about all of the details about visiting Notre Dame and I wanted to introduce myself, as well as respond to others peoples' questions about visiting that I saw afterwards.
The majority of my initial comment on this post was information on booking a time-slot. I did mention at the end that I'm a tour guide specializing in Notre Dame, but I didn't include any details about services, calls to action to book, or links, etc. The OP replied wanting to inquire about more information, which is the only reason why I said I would message them directly.
Any comment where I mentioned that I'm a tour guide specializing in Notre Dame was not intended for the purpose of "proposing transactions or promoting for the purpose of marketing, financial gain, or boosting traffic". My comments were intended as a response to others peoples' references to me/my post on the other site, and/or to provide background context to the source of my information that I shared as answers to questions/information about visiting. Personally, when I see someone share information (anywhere, not just on this forum specifically) that isn't widely available, my initial thoughts are "How did you get this information? What's your source?". Not in a cynical way, but in a curious way. I personally find it helpful when people provide their source(s) alongside their information, especially with the rise of AI.
Although its in reference to responses to reviews, I read in the Community Guidelines that "You can't discuss aspects of your business unrelated to the review", but "You may make a single brief statement, explanation, or clarification with regard to the review in question. You may invite the reviewer to contact you privately". I had thought that my comments/mentions of being a tour guide in response to other peoples' posts that reference me and to provide background context to the source of my information about Notre Dame would be ok given these guidelines, but my genuine apologies if that's not the case!
I have no issues with modifying my previous comments. I'd be happy to edit whatever is needed. :)
Emily
When you start contacting people and giving them your information, you are soliciting. I feel like you’re may also be crossing a line by constantly mentioning that you’re a tour guide. The owners of the site have been very diligent about keeping any hint of commercialization off of it. Compared to other sites, they’re much less aggressive about even commercializing their products and services than lots of places that I have seen on the Internet
Have you checked your private messages? generally when the webmaster removes or deletes a message they explain to the poster why. I’m sure you will have one Monday when they come back to work.
