Paris Layover and transportation

We arrive at Gare du Nord at noon. We want to go to the Eiffel Tower, but will need to do something with our luggage. Since we will depart later in the day from Gare de l'Est we thought it would be wise to store our luggage there (only 2 each of rolling suitcase and backpack) first. We have planned to walk between the stations, then catch a taxi at Gare de l'Est to the Tower. Does that sound like a good plan? We don't know how difficult it is to get out of Gare du Nord, but the walking part doesn't sound too bad. Thank you!

Your plan sounds good to me.

If you arrive at Gare du Nord at noon, in 10-12 mins you should be entering Gare de l'Est. Why would it be difficult to get out of Nord? As you exit Nord, turn left to the end of the block, cross the street to the side of the block where a BMW repair shop is located. There are sign pointing to Est. At Est the downstairs level is where the left luggage facility is located., near the corner.

That's why I was asking... because I'm not familiar with the area and don't know. Thank you.

Vintage40s, another good idea is to do a trial "walk" by Google Street View . . .then you can look for that BMW shop that Fred has mentioned, etc.

Thank you. I am also concerned about lugging suitcases up stairs within the railway station. I know that is the case in some places.

Hi,

Before you can get down to Est (literally) and enter on Rue d'Alsace, there is a staircase, looks formidable when lugging luggage...just easy does it. You'll probably see those with luggage bigger and heavier than yours.

There is another route I take at times to avoid that staircase when I've time and luggage. . Walk down from Nord, ca 2 blocks straight until you see the MacDonalds at the corner across the street, then turn left, like a U-turn, up the street leads you to the main entrance at Est, which you'll know when seeing the tall fence and gate of the plaza in front of the station. Can't help you with the street names, I don't use Google, only know how to get there.
