Your itinerary is more sensible than many which try to jam a week's worth of sightseeing into a couple of days. I wonder, however, about La Defense, a fairly long commute from the city centre. Other than an interest in modernist office towers and a shopping centre, what draw is there? The d'Orsay art museum appeals far more to me as do history-oriented museums. Your shopping-free schedule may also be a test of will power but is completely reasonable.

Its good to have a plan, and you can always alter it once you arrive as you see other opportunities. I assume you are arriving at Paris CDG airport.

I suggest you purchase Navigo Decouverte passes when you arrive. The cost is 22.15 EUR per person plus a 5 EUR initial set-up fee. You should also bring a 25 mm by 30 mm passport type photo. This will give you unlimited use of the Paris public transportation for your time there, including the train from the airport into Paris, train to Disneyland and return, train to Versailles and return, and all bus, Metro, RER trains to get around Paris.

I would suggest the Musee d'Orsay as well. It is a beautiful museum with some incredible pieces to view.

When you go to the Arc de Triomphe take a stroll down the Champs-Elysees to peak in the beautiful shops on the street there and to enjoy the views of the lovely apartments above the shops.

If this is your first time in Paris - enjoy it! You will fall in love with the city. If time allows make sure you treat yourself to a hot chocolate at Angelina's. Eat at an outdoor cafe and people watch as you sip some French wine. Have fun!

I haven't been to La Defense in many years so I am surely out of date, but if you are going for the Grande Arche and esplanade, are you sure you want to go on Sunday? I remember it being pretty sterile. I stayed out there once. After that I stayed in town and commuted out there.

What about Le Marais on the day you do Pompidou?

Since we already planned for Louvre, we excluded Orsay. La defence - going there mainly for grande arche - is scheduled for Sunday, since on rest of the days are booked for other higher priority activities. It is included to add variety to our list. We will go there only if we are left with lot of time.

Dancer3092 - Is Angelina a bakery/restaurant at champs elysse ?

Thanks Sam for Navigo Decouverte passes suggestion. That will be handy.

Eef - Le Marais - what can be covered there ?

Any suggestion for which 2cv company to choose for night tour ?

Day 1 - I'd try to get tickets to a concert at Sainte Chapelle - a lovely way to see the stained glass without endless standing in line.

Day 2 - I was underwhelmed by the Fragonard perfume museum, and there were almost no explanations in English. Sunset's at about 10 p.m. The first Eiffel Tower "twinkle" will be at 11 p.m. If you've got an early morning departure on Thursday, I'd move the "sunset itinerary" to another evening.

Day 6 - I agree, not much to see at La Defense and the Marais is an excellent suggestion. If you have kids (especially girls) with you, there's a small doll museum a couple blocks from the Pompidou (La Musee de la Poupee). . . mostly dolls, but lots of other toys too.
