Good Day!
Comparing hotels it seems I've settled on the area near the Luxembourg Gardens and the Sorbonne. Specifically Grand Hotel St Michel and Hotel Belloy. Would like to invite comments on these hotels or this area. Seems like I will be in the middle of University, which is not a bad thing, I usually like the university vibe but maybe there is a drawback here. Thanks very much.
Cannot comment on the hotels, but the area is very central and pleasant. Nothing to worry about!
Being in Paris in May is certainly "not a bad thing" either. I've been there in May but more often in the middle of summer. Just fantastic being there.
Nice area and the Luxembourg Gardens will be delightful although May is often a lull in plantings between the amazing profusion of tulips in early/mid april and the later plantings. Very central for walking to many things you come to Paris to see and do.
Thanks everyone for the input.
I haven't stayed in a hotel in Paris, but I have stayed in an apartment (same one both times) on the B. St. Michel, across the street from the gates into the Jardins de Luxembourg.
It's a good area, and you won't even really notice you are in the middle of the University area unless you look at the plaques on the buildings, and realize also that there are many bookshops.
No drawback at all...you will be in the middle of history!
It's so easy to get around Paris from there, and you can take the RER train from the airport right to the Luxembourg Station.
Plenty shops, cafes, restaurants, gardens.
Both are in a perfect area, in my opinion.
I'm envious.....we Canadians are being encouraged to stay put a little longer.
