Hi, does anyone know if it would be a bad idea to be in Paris mid-June? Will things be difficult because of the Olympics in July? Closures?
It will be packed. Accommodations few and far between and you’ll be charged premium prices.
Otherwise its Paris…
Check hotel prices for June in Paris and you’ll have your answer….
I am planning to attend the Olympics in Paris and even though I am arriving "early" before the Opening Ceremonies to see a few prelim matches, I still am only arriving on July 23. I have not heard of too many people arriving much before July 15. So to answer your question, I am not sure it will be crowded from Olympic fans. However, what you should know is several temporary performance venues are being erected around town and along the river that might cause some road closures. If you can work around that it would most likely not be any busier than any other year in mid June in Paris.
This recent thread is in regards to May, 2024… June will be worse.
I guess all travelers who have planned to go to Paris this summer and are not interested in the Olympic games will postpone their trip or plan it earlier.
Consequently, through a snowball effect, “smart” travelers will have the same plan as you, come to Paris in the weeks preceding or following the games.
How do you suppose that Paris, during the 2024 Olympics, will compare to Paris during the Rugby World Cup, September 2023 and the FIFA World Cup, December 2022?
The Olympics will take over the whole city for a couple of weeks. With the football and rugby world cups, the matches were played all over France with just a few in the capital and then only one event per day, so a maximum of say 70,000 fans in the city at any one time. Also, the Stade de France where the finals etc were played is outside of Paris. So the impact of the Olympics on the city will be far more widespread.

To my mind, they are not at all comparable.
First of all, the 2022 FIFA World Cup was played in Qatar, not in France.
The 2023 Rugby World Cup was, I guess, a bit of a trial run for France for hosting the Olympics, but as the previous responder noted, the number of participants, spectators, officials, journalists, support staff, volunteers, and event venues for the Olympic and Paralympic Games absolutely dwarfs the number of those same people/places that were here /existed for the Rugby World Cup.
