Hi
I am visiting paris in mid march for 2 days. I arrive at Orly in the evening and depart from CDG in the morning so need to reach airport at 7AM. I will have a suitcase so i am not preferring connections where i have to change trains to metros and climb stairs.
I prefer to take airport shuttles to the city but i understand shuttle from Orly wont run from March 3.
So here's the question:
1. Are there are any Shuttles from Orly to city?
2. I dont want to take metros as i understand that many metros dont have elevators/escalators so what are my options.
3. I am fine with taking Line 14 from Orly and getting down at one of the main stations and taking an uber to the hotel instead of changing to metro. So how easy is it to get an uber at 7PM in the evening on saturday and how expensive would it be to go for a 5-10mins journey max.
4. I want to be in a hotel where i can easily take metros for local sightseeing so was looking at a hotel about 2kms from eiffel could be in Nouvel Hotel eiffel in Rue des Volontaires or Beaugrenelle hotel tour eiffel which is in rue viala. I can change and book another hotel which is in a safe area, central and mid priced.
5. On my return i need to reach CDG at 7Am in the morning. So again if there is a shuttle bus thats ideal. If yes where would that be from. If not then can i get an uber at 6AM in the morning to goto a main train station on RER B or a line where i dont have to change to get to the CDG. Would this be recommended.
6. As i will be travelling myself so a cab each way all the way to airport seems like an overkill.
7. Also any suggestions on which areas i shud look for hotels to make this convenient. I understand clichy or bercy may work but then both are far from all the main attractions.
OK, you shouldn’t be fixated on shuttles which are going to be much less reliable than a taxi in Paris. If you’d like to really risk your trip book a shuttle I did it once I barely made it to the airport on time because it’s just a nightmare. just book a taxi spend the money. It will be worth it to get to CDG at seven in the morning. Before you go or when you get there, download the G7 app and set your taxi up to pick you up at about no later than 6 AM.
Your other option is to use the same taxi app and get them to take you to someplace like Gare du Nord where you can catch the RER to the airport. that will save you money but you’re going to need to leave your hotel a minimum of 30 minutes earlier
Another option is to look for a hotel in the Les Hallas area. While that station is huge and can be a nightmare, it does have escalators and is luggage friendly. You can take line 14 there and then catch the RER to CDG.
I realize that you are like a lot of people and think that Uber is the only way to go, but I will tell you that my Uber experiences in Paris have not been ideal. I was standing on the corner in front of my hotel waiting on Uber to take me to a train station when they canceled a reserved reservation. I’ve been dropped off in the wrong place because they got lost. They cannot use the taxi lanesv. overall I just use the G7 app and pay for cabs. I don’t think it cost that much more because it’s not subject to surge pricing when it starts raining and it’s much more reliable.
Take a cab. Fares are fixed, depending on the airport and which side of the river you are on.
Okay thanks for sharing i wasnt aware of the G7 app will surely try that.
I will rule out shuttle then if its not reliable.
Let me check the les hallas area.
I would just take a taxi into Paris and then to CDG. But if you are really committed to mass transit, stay at Hotel Chavanel on Rue Tronchet and take Line 14 to the Madeleine metro station. It's a 2-minute walk from the metro station, which BTW has an elevator, to the hotel. Then to go to CDG, you can take the Roissy bus from Rue Scribe (about a 8-minute walk from the hotel). You could also stay at Hotel Astra Opera Astotel which is even closer to the Roissy bus stop and slightly further away from the Madeleine station. There are tons of hotel in that area that are good and are close to both Madeleine metro station and the Roissy bus stop -- another good one is the Hotel St Petersbourg.
To answer transportation questions, we need to know where your hotel is. If you are staying in the 15th, take a taxi, from the official taxi queue at ORY. The fare is fixed at 36€, drivers are not tipped. That will cost you less, than paying 13€ for métro 14, with the additional cost of a follow-on taxi to your hotel, and a taxi from ORY will be a lot faster.
When departing, if you need to be at CDG by 07h00 and do not want to take the métro/RER, arrange (at least by the day before) for a taxi pickup by 06h00. G7 is the largest operator. I have had both uber and bolt no-show for early trips to the airport. Fare is 65€ (56€ from the Right Bank) with an additional 7€ dispatch fee:

From cdg to the 8th, we took a taxi from the line for 56 euros. Traffic was bad, so it was a bit slow. We tipped. On our return today we took an uber for 35 euros plus tip. No traffic and made great time. I have a broken foot, so this is the first time I haven’t used the RER. I have to admit it was pretty nice.
We took a couple of other Ubers when I just couldn’t clomp around in the boot any more and they were easy to get.
