Paris Hotels

My son moved to Paris, so I will be traveling a couple of times a year to visit him.
So far, the hotels I have stayed in have been lacking. I am tired of reading great reviews and
then experiencing tiny rooms and bathrooms. I know that's Paris. I would love recommendations
for nice rooms with decent size bathrooms without paying a fortune. Thank you!

Hi, Can you please provide a budget in USD or EUR so that we can make relevant recommendations? Also please list any of your requirements for a hotel such as elevator, AC, balcony, etc.

Rooms under $300-night, elevator would be nice.
Safe and nice location, with kettle in the room.
TV apps would be nice, after a long day out.

Hôtel Left Bank Saint Germain des Prés has been recommended on this forum.

Later this month, I will be staying at Hôtel Korner Sorbonne, which has been recently renovated (used to be Hotel Diana). The recent reviews are good. https://en.hotels-korner.com/hotels/hotel-korner-sorbonne#/booking/search

Earlier in September, I stayed in a single room in Villa Hotel Modigliani, becuase I needed to be closer to the Montparnasse train station. The hotel is on a nice quiet street. My room was bigger than the typical Parisian single room. The bathroom was decent. The toilet was in a separate room. I had plenty of room. There was a wardrobe so I could hand my clothes. A mini fridge and tea/coffee maker.

Good luck with your search!

So you want something for around 250€ per night. It would be helpful to know where you would like to be. Walking distance to your son's place or closer to the main tourist sights or a favorite cafe or park or whatever with an easy bus or metro to your son's place? Or it doesn't matter? If you would share an approximate location or the Metro nearest your son that will help eliminate a lot of hotels. Where have you stayed that has been disappointing? What's a good size room for some is tiny for others.

Your son will have local contacts to make suggestions, so ask for some recommendations through him. Since he is now a full time resident I expect he would be in one of the more affordable neighborhoods thus probably not in the center (but maybe not). Anyway, we love the Rue Clere neighborhood, but I think that being close to your son's place would be a top priority.

Thank you all for the suggestions.
He is in the 16th but looking for something in the 9th.

Based upon what has been said, to find hotels with other than tiny rooms and bathrooms, and something that is other than "lacking", I should think you will need to adjust your budget window to 250€ to 300€ at least. Kettles in rooms are not culturally French, but many hotels have them available if you ask.

Not a lot of tourists stay in the 16th, the 9th is more interesting and I might suggest:

Two years ago we stayed at Le 123 Elysses hotel in the 8th (an area most people do not like), but the rooms were large (25sqm) and had a kettle in the room. I think rooms around 250 euros a night. This time we stayed at the Fauchon, but was a bit more expensive - room was 30sqm

I stayed in the 8th at Hotel Alison. The rates are pretty good for Paris. There are different sized rooms. The positive for me was that the hotel was close to the Opera where the Roissy Bus from the airport stops. I was also close to Gare St Lazare and within walking distance of the Champs Elysees and sights on the other side of the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. So you would be close to the 16th. I had no issue with the area.

Another thing about the Le 123 Elysses Hotel part of Astotel chain), there was a lift to every floor and rooms were air conditioned (if needed) My brother didn’t want a bathroom with a shower over the bath, so he was given a room with large walk in shower. Breakfasts were decent and every afternoon, free snacks, soft drinks, tea and coffee available - although there is a kettle in the room as well

Perhaps an aparthotel like Citadines or Aparthotel Adagio may work better for you. Aparthotel Adagio Paris Opera is in the 9th. They have studios at 20m20 and 25m2. We've no idea what you consider tiny.

That is one main reason I don't read reviews, these so-called "great reviews" pertaining to Paris.

My two star hotels in Paris Nord mostly have a small WC, sometimes I negotiate and get a decent size bathroom which includes the toilet, sink and a bathtub....spacious enough. The price is under 90 Euro for one person.
