I need a reasonably priced hotel in Paris June 11-14 and then again for the night of June 19 and the ability to leave one bag for that time. Any suggestions?
Surely any place that you were renting a room for a total of four nights would let you leave your luggage there in between your stays.
Yes, any hotel will let you leave your bag. As for hotel recs, it would probably be helpful if you could give more specific info on your plans and what you’re looking for - desired neighborhood/arrondisement, budget range per night, breakfast vs. no breakfast options, special accommodations (elevators etc), anything that would help people narrow down recs to make. Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world! So many great options to suit different travelers.
While any hotel will allow you to leave your bags, the level of security associated with that bag storage can vary strongly from hotel to hotel. The best is a hotel with a secure luggage room that uses claim checks to identify and return your bags. The worst is a hotel that simply shoves them to the side of the lobby out of the way waiting for you to come back. I would specifically ask your hotel what type of luggage storage they have available. If it isn't the type with secure storage/claim checks, I would be tempted to use a professional luggage storage facility.
I am particularly sensitive to this since a tour mate had some luggage stolen from a lobby.
Hotel lobbies are not secure; I met someone who had their computer bag stolen while they checked in. It was sitting at their feet. It was a bit crowded and everyone looked like they belonged. Years ago the woman at the table next to ours in London had her purse with airline ticket and passport stolen at breakfast -- in the in house rather private seeming breakfast room filled with people who all looked like they belonged there. She was on the way to the airport -- but of course missed her flight and started a few days of misery.
Thank you for the responses. I was hoping someone knew a specific hotel with a luggage storage room. Guess I wasn’t specific enough.
I’m not worried about location as long as it’s walkable to things like Norte Dame, etc. I’d like to stay in the $200-250 price range. Airport shuttle would be awesome. I’m 77, so elevators are good :). A/C is a must.
Any specific hotel sugggestions?
Luggage storage is such a standard thing. I wouldn't make that your red letter amenity in helping you find what you're looking for.. That said, you need to get to booking because your travel date is just around the corner.
If you're looking for something close to walking distance to Notre-Dame, the location is important as that is in the very center of the city.
Your budget is low for the city center and you are not going to find an airport shuttle. The RER train is 14 euros to/from the airport.
ckpatchett,
Since you may not want to take the RER from the airport, a taxi from the official line would be 56 euro to the right bank and 65 euro to the left bank, taking you directly to your hotel. No hauling your luggage through the train or metro or just walking to the hotel. I only recommend this since you mentioned your age. I am 82 and don't want to schlep my bag on the metro or through the streets. But that is me. I imagine a private car would cost more than the taxi.
Aside from this consideration, I would hasten my search for a hotel in your price range and close-ish to Notre Dame. You have about 3 weeks, and you are into high season and have a fairly low budget for Paris in the summer. Check places available on Booking.com to see what's out there, and if you find something, perhaps you could reserve directly with the hotel for a (maybe) better price. If you do go through Booking.com, I have often booked through them and have always been pleased with the service and responsiveness to my questions.
Bonne chance!
P.S.
What Carol and Janet said re storage!
Find a place that appeals to you then email the hotel and ask them if they can hold onto a bag. You can also give them the dimensions of the bag so they know what to expect. I’ve had hotels tell me they don’t have the room and others that have said it was no problem.
