Paris Hotel prices in August

Husband and I hope to fly into Paris the last week in August before the start of our Eastern France tour which begins in Reims. We thought we'd stay a few days in Paris to get over jet lag before heading to Reims.

We've been to Paris before and have stayed in the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th arrondissements. Our favorite is the 7th.
I never get tired of seeing the Eiffel Tower, wandering the pedestrian-only streets, with multiple choices for a quick and informal meal.

So I did a search on the Forum for "Rue Cler" hotels and decided to send inquires to the following:
Hotel Muguet and Hotel Relais Bosquet.
I was shocked when the return rates per night were 600€ for Hotel Muguet; 412€ for Hotel Bosquet.

I know, the Olympics will have just been over, but I guess I was hoping that if Rick Steves' tour groups are staying at those hotels in August, that the rates would have been comparable to rates before the Olympics.
I checked the rates at Hotel Bosquet for July and August...and during the Olympics prices are in the 1000€ range; and for the closing ceremonies, 4000€. Will people really pay that much?
Anyone else having hotel price shock for Paris in August?

The Olympic Games will be over but the Paralympic Games will be going on then.

Hotels are free to ask whatever they want, it's a question of whether there are willing buyers.

Right now in Vegas things are ridiculously out of control because of the upcoming Formula 1 race.

Holy cow!!!! Muguet for 600E??????? NO!!!! They must just be down to one room. It is always 50E+ cheaper than Relais Bosquet! And to me 418E/night is too much for Relais Bosquet as well!

I just looked back on my CC statement. For April 2023 I paid 288E per night at Bosquet and 218E per night at Muguet. Both were a double room, Bosquet was an ET view which I did not request but got anyway so I was happy! I was there the week after Easter so it was very busy with school holidays etc, in other words, not really a "low" time of year.

You might try Hotel Beaugency. I love the staff there. The last time I stayed I felt the hotel needed a reno and freshening up but it was not dirty, just worn. They do have AC as do Relais Bosquet and Muguet.

Wow....I am poleaxed. I guess everyone is trying to make back Covid losses with the Olympics.

I've got Paris "pencilled in", hahaha, for next October. I'd better take a look at prices and see what's what. I have a little flexibility around my tour date with Seymour Travels so can make it all in October but wow....still shocked.

Thanks for posting your experience! AND even if the price is a few Euro cheaper I still would not book a non-refundable room.

I'd suggest poking around on booking.com. Set your filters and see what turns up. I found 53 properties within 1 mile of the center of Paris (not sure how that is defined) with ratings of at least 8.0/10 and costing no more than 400 euros per night. There were 29 hotels under 300 euros per night.

Edited to add: Quoted rates are for the last six nights in August.

I think hotels in Paris are just throwing up the huge prices to see what will stick. Either people will pay them, not me, for sure, or they will start coming back down to reality next spring. I found some hotels that are 120 euros in January asking 1000 euros in April. I didn't even look at what they are asking for July and August. Some people will probably see 1,000 Euros and think they are getting a swank hotel and grab a room, so the hotel can make big bucks even if only a couple of people bite.

Pam:
Kind of sad, but I know Muguet has more than one room available for the dates I want. Based on my previous Forum search, I expected the nightly rate to be lower than Relais Bosquet. Muguet's nightly rate for August is more than double than what you paid in April and more than 100€ higher than Relais.
I just checked out Hotel Beaugency. Love the location...and rates were much lower than Muguet and Relais.
Good to know you have stayed there.
Acraven:
I usually check hotels on booking.com...just to see what is available and read reviews. and then book direct.
High on my list now (in addition to Hotel Beaugency) are Hotel La Tamise, Hotel Marsart, Hotel d'Orsay. All three are Esprit de France hotels, whatever that means. They are under 300€/night.
Tigerfan:
I agree with you. I would not want to pay an inflated price for a less than luxury hotel.

Thought I'd come back and report on our Paris hotel search.
Based on Pam's suggestion, I emailed the Hotel Beaugency which is listed in the RS' France book, with FREE breakfast for RS' readers. Big win for us since we are breakfast eaters.

Rate for 2 people is 230€/night for the last few days in August. Such a big difference in price for a hotel in close proximity to the other two I mentioned in my initial post.
Once again, this Forum has been invaluable as I continue to plan for our trip next summer.
