I would like to know if anyone as had any experience with the hop on hop off bus and can suggest which one to take
There are now only two HOHO bus companies: Toot and Big Bus. Foxity has left Paris. I find these companies very expensive and the buses often stuck in traffic. Popular with some, but I would skip the HOHO buses and take a one hour river cruise to orient myself with the layout of Paris.
Unless you are disabled and thus want to view the city sitting down, they are a bad idea. They go where big buses go not necessarily where interesting things are and they are slow slow slow and lots of waiting at stops. both when on the bus and waiting for the bus. Use the metro to get places and then enjoy those places on foot.
Another option is to take a city bus, many of which go by popular tourist attractions.
Bus 69 passes by the Eiffel Tower, Les Invalides, Musée d'Orsay, the Louvre, Hôtel de Ville, and Bastille.
Bus 42 connects the Eiffel Tower to the Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde, Madeleine, and the Opera Garnier.
For the Left Bank, Bus 89 travels past the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Panthéon, and the Jardin des Plantes.
You can “hop off” a city bus very easily wherever you like, unlike a HOHO, which has planned stops. I love the city bus in Paris!
Based on your other post, stairs may be an issue. Using the metro usually involves quite a few stairs.
Paris buses are a good way to get around. Volva has given you some great bus routes to see the sights.
If you download the Citymapper app on your phone, you can get step by step directions for getting around Paris. You can even choose step-free routes. And the app will alert you that your stop is coming up.
And Tocard's recommendation of the 1 hour cruise on the Seine is excellent.
Is Bus 69 the one that ends up at the famous Paris Cemetery, Pere Lachaise? After going by all the sights you mention.
Rick had the tip about staying on the bus after the stop at the front Gates and riding up the hill to the back entrance. Then walk down through the Cemetery on your way out.
Was just watching Les Frenchies and they agreed with their fans that hoho is a bad expensive idea. Look at Rick's guide for suggested city buses.
We took one, but wasn’t on it long, as we didn’t want to wait for it every time we wanted to hop back on. I did enjoy it when we were on it though. I wouldn’t recommend it. I generally love Hoho busses, San Diego has a great one.
