Paris Greeters

I requested a Paris Greeter for my visit in May.

However I requested too early and my request is on hold until 35 days before arrival.

Yesterday I received an email from Paris Greeters.

The subject line reads as follows: "We have not forgotten your request"

and the body:

"Hello ........,

Your request for a walk with Paris Greeters has been received. Your reference number is .......

Our search for securing a volunteer will only begin 35 days before your requested date. Our volunteers who have other personal commitments cannot always be lined up too far in advance.

Please be advised, during periods when we have a large number of requests, you may receive your first proposal only a few days before your date.
Click on the button to follow your demand"

I thought this was so professional, efficient and caring. Makes me feel good about Paris Greeters. Looking forward to working with them.

I have had wonderful walks 4 times with Paris Greeters over the years, starting in 2011 and have recommended them plenty of times.

Last year I was not as lucky. We spent a month in Paris, from mid-September to mid-October. About two weeks before we arrived I made my request for a Greeter and made a donation. I received a message that a Greeter would be contacting me very soon. I never heard back from them. I supposed I could have tried contacting them again, but I didn’t bother. We had plenty to see and do there, and to just be there. If you don’t hear back, don’t be like me. I believe this is your first trip to Paris and there is much to see. The trip last year was my 9th and I’m more about just enjoying the city, meeting up with friends and exploring places I hadn’t been to yet.

Thank you NYCMOM. Looking forward to my Greet.

Andrea, If this happens to me, I will contact Paris Greeters. This is my first visit to Paris and I think a Greeter would be so helpful and informative.

I plan on making a donation after my Greet.

ADDED: Andrea and NYCMOM, is a donation expected before your walk or is it ok to wait until after my walk?

I met with Greeters in Paris and Lyon last year; both were wonderful. The Paris one was booked “too early”; the one in Lyon was booked with only 4 days advance notice, but fortunately there was someone available anyway.

I made my (optional) donation upon confirming the rendezvous with the Paris greeter.

I made my donation at the time I made my request. A donation is voluntary, not a requirement. They will/should arrange a greeter for you either way. Greeters are not allowed to accept tips. I have offered to take each of my 4 greeters for a drink (coffee, wine, whatever…) after the walk and only the first greeter I had accepted the offer.

We have had the gift of multiple greeters in several countries (Vienna, Paris, Glasgow). Every one has been incredible. Like stated above, they are not allowed to accept tips, but we have offered to have them join us for a meal, or drink. Some accept. Others do not. Such a wonderful program, however!

They're a very professional outfit. I went on a walk through Saint-Gilles looking at Art Nouveau with a Brussels Greeter. It was fabulous, and I treated the Greeter to a cup of coffee at the other end. I also had a number of little knick-knacks I had brought from home to give people and I gave him a set of emery boards with Australian animals on them (which he could gift to his partner if he didn't like them). I didn't know they weren't supposed to accept tips, nevertheless I think there's no harm in a cup of coffee (others may disagree).
