Hopalong - other cities have them too. I happened to learn that there are Chicago Greeters. When I was visiting my old home town last summer, I contacted them and had a wonderful morning exploring a neighborhood I'd always wanted to know better.

I've used Paris Greeters many times and they've always been great! Be sure to give them enough time (a month?) to match you up with one of their volunteers who is an expert in your chosen area. Have fun!

Yes! We used them last summer and had a wonderful walk with lots of insights into Parisian life. Be sure to sign up early!

I've used them twice, in 2011 & 2014. Both times we had excellent greeters. I highly recommend it. As for other cities greeters, it might be hit or miss. For our 2014 trip I also contacted the London Greeter website. I never heard a word back.
