Paris-good classic bistro (lunch) restaurant near louvre or latin quarter

looking for a Paris-good classic bistro (lunch) restaurant near louvre, ND or latin quarter for a July long luncheon midday break. Something with prix fixe-plat du jour for around 20 euros PP would be great. Family of 6 with teens. Considering Nos ancetres les Gaulois or Polidor. Yes/no?

Been going to Polidor for decades, before it hit every language guidebook. It's good. Still has locals. Long tables. Order the wine special written on the mirrors. They do have some air conditioning now after the 2003 summer heat wave. My kids always loved Polidor. My French husband always suggests going there too. It's not made up to look old; it is old and has one of the last stoop toilets still found in bistros--a bit of history-- too much information. But it's a good lesson for the kids.

I went to Nos Ancestres les Gaulois a while ago--okay, it was thirty-five years ago. I found it very unimpressive. Back then, it seemed to be mostly basic buffet items and grilled meat. I'd choose Polidor over the other.

If Susan comes along, she has a local place she's been going to for years on Ile St. Louis.

It is across from the Louvre and two stores up on Rue du Louvre. Run by a Greek. Great food. Fast service. Small pizza was around 10- 12 E and fed two of us. Unless you like a half done egg in the middle of the pizza, tell them no oeuf.

There's a rabbit warren of restaurants near St. Michel , many of which have prix fixe menus posted on chalkboards outside. We went to one and had great onion soup -- but we could never find it again! Fun to wander, though.

going to Paris next month. Now need a place for a long lunch near the Louvre or Notre Dame. Looking for something like Polidor, typical French bistro type of place. We have 3 teens, so budget is 20 euros PP. Still considering Nos Ancetres for lunch (anyone been?) and la fourmi aîlée looks great. I would like somewhere that I can make a reservation, as we are meeting some of our party after the Louvre and want a set place.

For quicker results, look on "TheFork" - select "bistros" or any other cuisine - you can see the menus, prices and make reservations in one fell swoop. If you opt for the discount menus, you will be restricted to special menus, though.

You might consider a decent chain like Chez Clement, which serves inexpensive bistro-style food like Maman used to make. Several locations around town, prices fit your budget, kid and teen-friendly.

thanks for the Chez Clement idea. I think we will do lunch at Nos Ancetres for the atmosphere (plus it's only 14-20 euros PP), and then Chez Clement the next day.
