Dies anyone have experience using this app for taxis in Paris? Do you find it would be a way to avoid being scammed since you are using legitimate taxis only this way? Thank you!
Yes, absolutely. I used it every visit and have since about 2021 or so.
I add my credit card to the app right before I travel and then remove it after I get back home. I am NOT sure this is necessary as I am certainly no cyber security expert, lol!!
I like that I can add a 2-3 Euro tip to the bill in the app and have the ride automatically charged.
I have never been scammed by a taxi driver in Paris although there are always stories of folks who have. IF you get into a G7 cab at a train station or airport taxi rank you can also go ahead and pay thru the app.
I always use the G7 app when I return to the airport from my hotel in Paris. I book a day or 2 ahead and the cabs have always been there early. The cabbies have been uniformly nice and the cars clean.
This is very reassuring thank you! I plan to use the metro but I would like to have other options as well!
Yes we used it on our last 2 trips quite successfully. We also enjoy using the bus.
Yes I plan to look at the bus as well!
I've used it several times. Usually to arrange for a cab to take me from Gare Saint-Lazaire, where trains from our home in Normandie arrive, to CDG aéroport to catch a flight. It works quite well and the cabs have been uniformly professional and clean. Some of the drivers are a bit... uh... creative at getting around Paris traffic jams, but they always have made good time for us.
We loved it. It's user friendly and similar to the uber app in how it works. Except it's reliable; and taxi's are professional. My hubby injured his foot while we were in Paris last spring, and we used it a lot. Loved that we would be standing in any random place and could get a taxi. Plus they can use the bus lane so they move quickly.
You definitely don't need it going from CDG to your accommodations. Just follow the signs to the official Paris taxi line; line moves quickly. Rates are fixed for that route. Otherwise use the G7 app.
Another happy customer here. I’ve been very happy with it and unlikr Uber G7 has never stood me up. They show up when they say they will.
If you make a reservation if you can track your cab coming towards you on the app so you know when to go outside, which is nice if the weather is bad
I have it on my phone as well. One word of advice: if you’re leaving from CDG or Orly and plan on using a taxi to get to the airport, make sure to schedule one two days prior to your departure. Don’t depend on a taxi being available on the day you leave.
This all helps so much! I’m going to be arriving at Gare du Nord. The metro from there to my hotel looks like it’s just line 4 to st Germaine de Pres. The more options the better though!
Is there any advantage or disadvantage over booking a taxi using G7 yourself or your hotel doing it.
We will want an early morning ride ( probably around 6:30 am) and if we book ourselves this may be the first and only time we use the app so I’m a little leery if it glitches. I assume it will be more expensive if the hotel does it, but I probably will be willing to pay for peace of mind. When the hotel in Rome booked for us it was only about $10 more.
The hotel can do it for you, but make sure they call a Taxi Parisien, and not whatever ride they get a kickback on. I've seen reports of this happening too many times. There is a 7€ approach fee when you schedule a taxi. And make sure you request it two days ahead of your departure date.
You can also call yourself. The English-speaking line is 01 41 27 66 99
@nmarsa567 - IF you are coming in to Gare du Nord, you can just go get into the Taxi line. The only thing you need to know is that you want the guy to start the meter and to say NO if they tell you ANYWHERE other than one of the airports is a fixed rate. It may or may not be a G7 taxi that is next in line when it's your turn.
BTW, I always have my hotel's full address typed on a 3x5 index card so I can just hand it to the driver.
And I see the above information was given on your other thread about taxis from Gare du Nord. The taxi rank is out the side exit near where your Eurostar train will arrive.
Yes thank you, I did have a friend who was charged 180 euro from a taxi in the official line I’m not sure what her destination was however she knows she was way overcharged. So
I’m wary of taking a taxi from Gare du Nord. This was during a strike when the metro was not running a couple years ago but I’m not sure if that matters
I think if you are just watching the driver and see that he starts the meter you will be OK. I've taken cabs from there a number of times with no issues. It does sound like your friend got scammed.
On your 3x5 card, I'd also write out beside it what the approximate fare should be. I looked at this taxi fare calculator and it seems about accurate. From GdN to one of my regular hotels it looks like it's about 24E which is around what I would expect.
OK, if you get a taxi driver, who’s going to try to charge you a fortune start taking pictures Pull out that phone and start photographing. Get the license number that is posted and the drivers name. Make sure you have all the other information that you see posted which will include where to complain. Generally as soon as the scammer sees that you aren’t stupid and can do this, they realize that they’ve messed up their meter. I actually haven’t had to do it in Paris, but I’ve done it in several other countries. oh, and by the way, I go ahead and file a complaint, even if the driver did the right thing. They need to learn not to take advantage of people. One man started crying when I told him I was still filing because if he got one more complaint he will lose his license. I told him that was too bad. I did file a complaint. I do hope he lost his license.
Alternatively, if they do not turn on the meter as soon as they start moving scream stop and demand to be let out
If you are coming from CDG airport in the taxi line where it is supposed to be a fixed fare to a hotel on the Left Bank what is the best way to assure the fare is clear before you start off? Do they still start their meter?
"If you are coming from CDG airport in the taxi line where it is supposed to be a fixed fare to a hotel on the Left Bank what is the best way to assure the fare is clear before you start off? Do they still start their meter?"
I have my hotel address typed out on a 3x5 card. I also have "Fixed Fare - 65E" written out beside that so they know I know. The fixed fare depends on which side of the Seine you are going to. Right Bank is a little cheaper, Left Bank is the 65E.
When the driver is putting my bags in the trunk I show him the 3x5 card so he can set his google map route AND hold up my CC and ask OK? Or hold up my phone and ask ApplePay OK? That way payment and fixed rate are specified.
I will add that one trip in to town the traffic was awful. At about 1.5 hours in I saw the meter flip over from the fixed rate and wondered how the driver would handle it. When we got to the hotel he pointed to the meter that now read about 70E and said NO....not correct. He did not have much English but had enough to convey to me that I still only owed what was the fixed amount at that time. Yes, I gave him a big tip, lolol.
Pam, Thanks for the great info. That explains how everything should go…
