Hi All
My wife and I are driving the above route and are looking for some suggestions on route to take and where to stay. We are thinking of going via Besancon, Annecy then across the Alps via a pass (not tunnel). Any suggestions on the route and where to stay for the 2 transit nights appreciated.
Don't have any advice for you but as someone who has spent time in both Annecy and Urbino I'm interested in your trip. How/why did you choose this route?
Matt
Trip involves UK walking trip, Paris 1 night to see a friend, 3 day meander to Urbino - 1 night Urbino (ought to stop by a World Heritage city!) then a week in a villa in le Marche, Italy - bliss! Can't wait :)
Well, if you like to swim or ice skate, there is an excellent facility in Besançon combining facilities for these two activities.
We went to Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamps, le Corbusier's iconic 'brutalist' architecture, built in the 1950s but only consecrated early in this century. The French tour guide said "beton armé" (reinforced concrete) about two hundred times. The church is very much more wonderful than any photos in architectural texts suggest. If you like architecture, consider it. It's about an hour from Besançon.
Cool. I enjoyed le Marche when I was there in 2008. In the area along your route I've been to Annecy and Chamonix. I thoroughly enjoyed both.
