Paris for Christmas with active preschoolers

We are five adults and two young kids (3 and 5) spending twelve nights over Christmas in Paris this year. We are searching for an Airbnb/VRBO that will accommodate us and would love suggestions on neighborhoods to seek out or avoid, etc. Our budget is $500/night.

We are very open to a "neighborhood Paris" trip rather than a tourist destination trip (the little ones won't be in to the Louvre!), but will still definitely need to be close to a metro as we will have no car. The main thing is to have nearby Christmas and active fun for the little ones. I realize the weather will be against us so far as a lot of outdoor time, but we will come prepared.

Edited to say: We read a couple of articles that suggested the 19th is a good place for families.

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Hello! My family and I return to Paris frequently. It's one of our favorite cities in Europe. We just came back from a brief 3 day stay in Paris during 24-27 May 2019. We rented an AirBnB in Paris.

Paris Address: 95 Blvd de Sebastopol. It has roomy kitchen, massive living room with a pull out couch, large dining room, however only one 1 toilet in a tiny water closet but has 2 showers/bathrooms. It has laundry facilities and an elevator. It is a rare spacious apt for this city. It has lots of huge windows and very bright and breezy. We were 4 adults staying here May .
The apartment is:
immediately next door to the Monoprix (bakery upstairs, groceries downstairs NOTE: hunt around for a neighborhood bakery, grocery store bakeries are not good.),
20 steps from Reamur Sebastopol Metro station.
10 minute stroll to Les Halles park and underground shopping mall and mega train hub of Chatelet Les Halles.
10 min walk to the fabulous George Pompidou modern art museum that the kids will adore. (my kids when they were young loved it, plenty of running about space and interesting exhibits for them.)
Rue Montorgeui is equally just minutes away. This street is a famous restaurant and market street.

I really like this very central location for ease of hopping down to the metro and in minutes accessing sights of interests to visitors.
Hope this is useful to you.

Thank you very much! I couldn't find the exact apartment you were talking about, but we have saved a few homes in this area now based on your recommendation. Thank you for taking time to reply!

Some Paris parks offer pony rides, which little ones would enjoy (or perhaps be terrified by) and the big department stores (les grandes magasins) on Boul Haussman have wonderfully decorated windows at Christmas. These are especially designed to intrigue kids, lots of colour, moving figures. etc., with a small platform right at the window for the kids to stand on and see the fun. There is usually a roving Pere Noel (Santa Claus) around and one year there was a man with a black cat on his shoulder which did tricks. Lots of well dressed Parisian Grandmothers shepherding their equally well dressed grandchildren from store window to store window. It is a lovely Paris experience, with or without children.

Norma, that sounds wonderful! We will definitely check those things out. I also read in another thread about Le Festival du Merveilleux at the Musee des Arts Forains, which opens the day before we leave, but we are already planning to spend the day. Thank you for taking time to respond!
