Paris Food and History

I have a reservation for Le Procope and intend to visit A la Mere de Famille. With so many options to sort through, would someone suggest a place to eat which is of some historical significance but is foremost a good eat? We are staying in 2nd arrondissement. Thanks.

If you can afford it, Le Grand Vefour has a long history of excellence. Countless famous historical figures ate there.

At the other end of the money spectrum are two of Paris' historic bouillons, Racine and Chartier. There will be arguments about the food quality but they are an important part of Paris history. The restaurant Bofinger is famous for its Art Nouveau interior as is Le Train Bleu.

Two restaurants in Paris claim to be the oldest in France (and probably the world): la Petite Chaise and le Procope. Perhaps the food is marginally better at la Petite Chaise but go to these locations for the atmosphere and to claim that you were there, not for the food.

Located between these two restaurants is Armani Restaurant (not Armani Café) which offers an outstanding dinning experience.

However, in the 2nd consider le Grand Colbert, classic Parisian dinning without going to the Left Bank.

Le train bleu is part of railroad history, a massive and grand banquet hall in the Gare de Lyon station. The decorations are dizzying, the menu not so much, but its cuisine is certainly competent. Allowing a certain premium for the surroundings, the set menu can still be a good deal as a feast for the eyes. Generous cheese platter, by the way.
