following Rick Steves mention of using Uber for a 'Floodlit Paris' tour, does anyone know how this type of trip can be arranged, since multiple predetermined destinations are involved ?
Last month we used Uber SUV to get a group of us from our apartment over to the opera. While in the car, we just asked the driver for his business card and made arrangements on the spot directly with him to be the one to pick us up after the opera was over and take us to a couple of different destinations.
Not sure how many are in your party. The Uber SUV we were in seated up to 6 adults. You could use Uber Black if you are looking to ride in something smaller, and I'm sure if you took a standard Uber to another location, you can always arrange something similar.
The Uber drivers definitely aren't going to give you any guided commentary. If that's something you want in a Floodlit Paris tour, you may prefer to look into one of the companies that runs the vintage Citroen open top vehicles around Paris. They have pre-determined tour itineraries or you can pay a little more and customize something based on what neighborhoods and sites you want to cover.
For next year, the Paris book will add this info about using Uber for that purpose:
If you enjoy Uber, this is a far better deal than going by taxi. Drivers are fun-loving and you’ll save about 20 percent. When ordering your car via the app, you can leave the destination blank, or just choose a random address and then explain your plan when the driver arrives. This is a great gig for an Uber driver and they still make money when you stop and hop out, so that’s no problem. And if you win your driver's friendship, he or she will happily snap photos of you at various stops.
