We are in Paris for Bastille Day. Where are good locations to view the fireworks? Thanks in advance.
Champ de Mars, near Ecole Militaire.
Bonne fête.
but get there early, probably by about 5 pm at the latest in order to find a spot for the 11 pm show.
another good spot is Trocadero, just across the river from the Eiffel Tower. Same time advice prevails.
The theme this year is "Paris Welcomes the World," so appropriate! The show lasts 35 minutes.
Be aware that some metro stations in the area close beginning in the evening (in addition to the listed stations, the authorities reserve the right to close any others when needed for crowd control management/security):
Métro ligne 6
Stations Dupleix et Passy are closed from about 7 pm onwards.
Métro ligne 8
Station Ecole Militaire closed from about 7 pm onwards.
Métro ligne 9
Station Iéna closed from about 9 pm onwards.
Métro ligne 6 ligne 9
Station Trocadéro
as of 9 pm, the entries/exits Paul Doumer, Palais de Chaillot and Avenue Mendel will be closed.
Métro ligne 6 ligne 8, ligne 10
Station La Motte Picquet-Grenelle
as of 11 pm the entries/exits Suffren and Pondichéry will be closed. (in other words don't count on using that to get home after the show!!)

43 years ago today we were just out of college, in Paris on the Champ de Mars and wanted to know whether we had time to get some supper before the fireworks. I mustered my best 5th grade French and asked a policeman, " A quelle heure commence les boom boom?" He started frantically blowing his whistle and within moments I was ringed by a dozen policeman. I turned to my partner, "My God, it is true! I'm going to be arrested for massacring the French language." I was borderline panicked when he broke into a broad smile, clutched his hands, and implored, " Repeter! Repeter!" I did, they all howled, and I know I will never forget where I was at 8 PM on July 14, 1972. We have been reminiscing all day long. Bonne Fete National!
What a wonderful story Denny. I have been remembering my 1989 (Bicentenary) parade moments and the fabulous Jessye Norman at Place de la Concorde ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkAFABKQf6o
Watching from our apartment's balcony near Park Butte Chamont tonight. Busy metro outing earlier in the day. Avoiding metro tonight.
Only Americans call it Bastille Day.
Australians refer to it as Bastille Day also.
"Only Americans call it Bastille Day. "
So what. What's your point?
