Hi All, This is my first trip to Paris. I'm bringing my 17 year old daughter with me. We have rented an apartment two blocks away from the Louvre so seem to be able to walk to many sights. My daughter is interested in thrift shopping while in Paris. I'm trying to figure out how to fit in the shopping while seeing some of the major sights: Notre Dame, the Louvre and other museums, Eiffel Tower, a river cruise. I was thinking of getting a two day museum pass. I have read since my daughter is 17 that she gets into museums for free. We have 5 nights. Thank you!
Thrift shops in Paris are called “fripperies” and you can come up with a pretty good list by googling “fripperies Paris”.
Thank you!
Does your rental apartment have the 13 digit registration code?
If so, can you review it when you come back?
I’d like to make a list of legal apartments for a future visit!
Have a wonderful trip to a great city.
Congratulations on your first trip to Paris!!
You can walk from the Louvre to most of the 'sights.' Even though your daughter is 17 - I would still consider getting the Museum Pass. One of the main benefits is being able to skip the ticket buying lines - which can often be far longer than just the admittance line.
Given that you have 5 nights - you should be able to experience most of the 'must sees.' And still maybe find an afternoon for thrift shopping.
I wish you and your daughter a fabulous trip!
Thank you. I did wonder if she would be able to skip the line without a pass. As we are going in February I was hoping it would be quiet with not so many lines.
I was in Paris in February in 2016 and 2017, and experienced no lines for anything!
I went to the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay, and walked right in.
Awesome! :-)
Sounds like it will be a memorable trip with your daughter! The skip-the-line Museum Pass feature is really great and (imho) worth the price. My personal favorite museums are d'Orsay and l'Orangerie, but I am a big fan of the Impressionists. Both museums are included in the Museum Pass and not far from where you will be staying. Last time I was in Paris (Oct-Nov 2018) I noticed quite a few thrift stores, particularly in the Marais. They always seemed very crowded but would be worth weaving into a lovely long walk with your daughter from your apartment, along the Seine, through Isle de Saint Louis and then into the Marais. Be sure to stop into a cafe (or two) for hot chocolate! Keep in mind that the thrift stores tend to close pretty early, so consider the time to avoid disappointment. Flea markets (Puce de Saint-Ouen in the north; Puce de Vanves, in the south, near Montparnasse) are fun too, but I don't know how active they will be in February. They are open only on weekends, I believe. Bon voyage!
