Just found out that the week I was considering for my fall trip to Paris would coincide with Fashion Week. Any thoughts as to whether I should consider delaying my arrival until the next week?
I'd check hotel prices and availability for both weeks and airfare. If no difference, what the heck? There will be a lot of fashionable people in town.
I agree with Sam. Paris is always popular and the fashionistas should not really get in your way.
In fact, I'd disagree. Paris gets absolutely packed during fashion week and both hotels and restaurant reservations get harder to come by. Plus traffic can get snarled around Place de la Concorde/rue du
Faubourg St Honore. This latter may not matter too much to you, but if dining out is one of your big pleasures while traveling, I'd consider changing my dates.
I live in Paris, and unless I accidentally go to an area where a fashion show is being staged, I am not usually affected by fashion week. In fact, it is fun to purposely go to the venues (not inside, of course) and people-watch. I guess I don't go to the trendiest restaurants, because I have rarely experienced a problem, nor have I had problems taking the bus through the center of the city due to fashion-week congestion. You maybe would have more trouble finding a hotel room at that time, but I really doubt it.
Thanks for all the feedback. Terry, I especially appreciate your input as someone living there!
Note that Kim lives there too and has for ten years. She works in an area frequented by tourists, so I think she has had experience with Fashion Week jams and dining, even if it's only the corner cafe for a sandwich de jambon beurre-- gluten free that is.
