Anyone have any experience with dinner cruises on the Seine? They are very pricy, starting at €100 pp. Wondering if they are worth the money & any suggestions about the best ones?
Sounds like a tourist trap sort of thing. If you want a cruise down the Seine, then jump on a boat. If you want a nice dinner, then Paris is FULL of great restaurants.
As Tim suggests, there are a lot of great dining choices. The guys who are good at piloting boats on the river may not be the best choice for chef. Why not hit a great restaurant and then a great river cruise? We are going to give Le Petit Chatelet a try in the fall, and they are right near the river. Have a great trip!
Doug - Try www.calife.com. We did this dinner cruise a few years ago and found it very nice. The food was very good and the cruise enjoyable. The website has the menus so you can check it out. One menu is 67 euros and one is 104 euros. We plan on doing this again next week if it is not raining. I know alot of people think it is a waste but we really enjoyed it. Have a great trip.
I would try the Calife.. one of the very few boat cruises where the food is prepared onboard.. not shipped in and reheated as it is on most of the big boat cruises.
I have not done it myself.. so can only base this on what a friend of mine said.. she recommended it , and she goes to Paris almost every year.. I trust her judgement.. plus as Rosemary says you can choose from two menus and they both look good to me!!!!!
I have just enjoyed the regular evening cruise after dining elsewhere, so I had a wide choice for my dinner, no strict dress code, and could better focus on just watching the sights while onboard the boat.
Laura most dinner cruises do not have a "dress code".
I've never understood why anyone wants to be dealing with dinner while gliding by the beautiful City of Light. If you want a great meal, find a good restaurant where you focus on the food and atmosphere. The river cruise is really about scenery. An evening is long enough for both.
