Paris

I would appreciate recommendations for walking tour operators other than Paris Walks. Also is the Picasso Museum worthwhile - I have been to Paris before and been to all the major museum but never to Picasso. RS only gave Picasso one star.

I’m an art junky and I thought the Picasso was worthwhile. I went back in Nov of 2019. It’s a beautiful building and had an airy feeling to the interior. His career was so long and so pivotal on 20th C art and he did so many different things along the way. I’d say go!

Review the Picasso Museum website for a feel for their collection, and the space that it's in. It's focused on a different time period of Picasso's life than, for example, the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. You may find the nuseum of interest, or not, based on your review and what about Picasso interests you. Picasso is not my favorite artist, but I have visited the Paris museum several times, and felt it was worth my time.

If you're looking for ideas for places to visit in Paris, investigate some less-major museums in Paris. On my upcoming trip, I've added to my list a couple of museums that I haven't been to before, Hotel de la Marine, Musee Bourdelle, Musee du Luxembourg (which supposedly only has one exhibition at a time, but I like the artist who will be on exhibit when I am in Paris), Musee Gustave Moreau.

I'm not much of a Picasso fan but went to this museum years ago when I was still getting a Museum Pass and it was "free". That said, I really enjoyed it. Lots of art I'd not seen and some really cute personal objects. The one that struck me was a postcard sent to one of his sons from Dad's friend's who were on vacation together, I think in South of France. Signatures were easily recognizable - Matisse, I think. Maybe Miro and Chagall...anyway you get the drift.

I'd say that if you haven't been and had time this works.

There are SO MANY smaller museums and I am trying to work my way thru them, hahaha.

the Picasso museum has been renovated and is much better than it once ws and they do have special exhibits, not Picasso, that are worth seeing. The collection is mostly stuff the estate paid to France as taxes and so not his most memorable work but still a wide range and now much better displayed.

Still unless you adore Picasso, I would not put it high on my list.

I'm another who is not really a huge Picasso fan, but I did really enjoy the Paris museum.

It was much better, in my opinion, than the bigger one in Barcelona.

Hi,

Adding my two cents to what the others have said above. I'm by no means a huge fan of P.P.'s later works, but have enjoyed the several visits I've had over the years, most recently in 2023 (may have been '24). I also adore the courtyard in the front of the building and the overall architectural style, as well. With all that said, I'm a big fan of the Impressionists and think the Orsay, L'Orangerie, and the Monet Monmarrton museum are better.
Good luck,

We have taken about 4 walks with Corey Frye at A French Frye in Paris and enjoyed all of them. He does not have scheduled walks but if you let him know your dates he will tell you what he's doing or set up something. (For example on our next trip since there are 4 of us we picked the tour and it's now open to a few more people if they want to come and if not we still get the group rate)
