Paris - Convent Stays

Has anyone stayed at the Ephrem Hotel in Paris.

I have stayed at convents in Italy but not in France. Any information is appreciated.

I have not stayed there , but it sounds far too restrictive for average tourist .

You must vacate room every day by 8:30 am .
You must be in by 10 pm .

You may not stay on a Sunday or Monday night .

They close for entire summer .

What is your budget ( in euros ) unless going there for a spiritual retreat , I would not stay there to save money .

Hostels or cheap hotels would be easier to me

Thanks Dave and Pat for the suggestions. Much appreciated.

I stayed in a hotel in the Maris last time I was in Paris and it was fine even affordable at 125.00 euro a night. However I stayed in convents in Italy and they were clean, safe and close to public transportation for 30.00 to 50.00 euros a night - a bargain! I was hoping to find something similar in Paris this time. But it is Paris not Rome! Thanks again!

Kate: Don't know when you plan to go to Paris, but if you aren't dead set on only staying in the Marais, check Ibis hotel chain to see what kind of promos they have. I've gotten rates with them in both August and in late Fall for as low as 65 Euro a night - August especially is when they seem to have specials on their rates because Ibis caters a lot to European business travelers and since most Europeans go on holiday in August, you can stumble across some good deals. I've stayed at their properties in the 10th and was within a 2 minute walk to a Paris Metro Station and roughly a 10 minute walk from the RER, Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est stations, but there are Ibis and Ibis Styles scattered throughout other areas of Paris. They are safe, clean, convenient and many of them have air conditioning (important if you are there during the summer).

I wouldn't stay somewhere with that many rules - particularly about being out of your room by a specific hour each morning. I was on a trip once where I ended up with the flu and I was down for the count in my hotel room for a few days. I can't even begin to think how miserable that would have been had I been staying someplace where I needed to get up and get out because of some rule. If you can't find a good deal on a hotel, then agree with Pat that you'd be better off staying in a hostel with less restrictive rules. There are plenty of sites you can read reviews of hostels in advance to make sure you are getting a good one (e.g., hostelworld.com) and many of them have female only dorm rooms or you can book yourself a private room within the hostel.

Over the years, I’ve enjoyed staying in the Italian convents operating as bed and breakfast. Perhaps the Ephrem Guesthouse operated like the Italian convents in the past, but it is now a spiritual retreat center, serving pilgrims with a devotion to the Sacred Heart (Sacré-Coeur). They offer daytime retreats, overnight, and 3 day retreats. The 8:30 am departure is for retreatants on their last morning. In this context the 10pm curfew is sensible since the guests are there for reflection, not a tourist b and b.

The Maison des Pères Rédemptoristes operates as a bed and breakfast in Montparnasse, not sure of their prices but the description looks good. Maison Rédemptoristes

Thanks Ceidleh for the info about the Ibis hotel chain - I will check it out. I'm going to be in Paris in September.
I have been lucky to be healthy on my travels but it is a good reminder that anything can happen!

Thanks Barbara for the info on Maison des Pères Rédemptoristes.
I thought that the Ephrem Hotel might be a spiritual retreat center. Thanks for the conformation.
