Paris concerts in August

I see that others have mentioned concerts at Madeleine and Chapelle, but cannot find anything listed in August on their sites. I will be in Paris from August 17-20 before a cycling tour in Loire. I would love to attend a classical concert at one of these venues. Can someone confirm that there are concerts here or elsewhere in August, and perhaps it is just too early for posting right now? I do love to experience a concert when traveling, so hope someone can help me find one! Thanks in advance!

I hate to disappoint you, and it's not 100%, but things do shut down a LOT in Paris in August, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if neither of these venues had concerts in August. Keep looking, but there is a real lull here in August, and that pertains especially to cultural events, which then kick back off with a bang with the rentrée in September.

I spent the month of August in Paris in 2012. I think there were concerts at St Chapelle but I didn't get to any. I did get to one at Notre Dame that was wonderful so definitely check that out. I remember seeing notices for performances at other churches also. I can't find anything right now during those dates but I did see some for other dates in August, so just keep checking as the time gets closer. I hope you find something because the one I attended at Notre Dame was a highlight.

Both Pariscope and L'Officielle des Spectacles, weekly publications, will have every single concert in every possible church listed. You can look at them on line before coming to Paris but for your exact dates, it is published the Thursday (if I remember the day correctly) of each week. It's the Parisian go-to for info on all outings. The websites may have an English version, or use Google Translate. The paper versions are in French. There will be plenty of the Ste. Chappelle and Église de la Madeleine concerts because they are geared to visitors.

Unfortunately the paper Pariscope is no more, and I find the website not nearly as user friendly as the zine used to be. The listings usually change on Wednesday noon when the booklets arrive at the news kiosks.

Thanks 75020--I knew one of them had ceased paper publication, but didn't remember which one. Too bad the website is clunky. I always depend on the paper version, well marked up and notated by the end of the week.

Oh how I mourned the loss of the paper Pariscope!! The other has a type face that is hard for me to read. This website is pretty good, if you haven't become familiar with it

On August 19 the Chateau de Versailles has a wonderful program "The Royal Serenade in the Hall of Mirrors." I have been to many musical evenings at the Chateau during the regular season, and it does not disappoint. The Chateau is known for attracting the best period orchestras and musicians in the world. This will be a bit different: Period music and dancing, and a special walk through parts of the Chateau. It's not a classical concert in the traditional sense, but worth considering. Check out on the Chateau website. RER easy access to the Chateau.
