In preparation for our trip I've been monitoring these boards for any last minute info I might use for our trip. In the General Europe forum someone posted about his recent trip to the Paris Catacombs and the fact it was closed due to a strike. I went to the Catacombs website and searched online for info. It appears it has been closed for a while, couple weeks maybe. Does anyone have info about when the strike will end? We have reservations on June 19. It's one of the top things my daughter and her friend want to do in Paris, not that it matters to the powers that be.
My travel companions went there last week and they were striking due to bad work conditions (low light, dampness and decaying bodies). It made no mention of when it would end. They also said there were renovations happening but didn't know if the two were related.
We are going in June and I am disappointed as my teenagers were looking forward to seeing the catacombs. Somewhere I read August for potential re-opening. Such a bummer!
We have tickets we purchased for a private tour on Viator and they sent us this message in an email this morning. This is just what was sent to them. I hope they get it worked out.
“Dear Davis, this is to inform you that the Catacombs of Paris striking almost every day this month, and there is a chance that the strike won't be over by the 29th.
I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused but we have no power on this and in case they do strike, we must cancel the tour. In that case the platform will proceed to a full refund. Thank you for your understanding, I'll keep you informed!
Warm regards,
Giulia
