Have always wanted to see the canals - however, in surfing the canal sites, I am sensing those canal tours end before we arrive on November 12th?
Are there private options? Or good tips for viewing on shore?
Which canals are recommended?
Thanks!

The Canal St Martin can be seen just a couple of blocks east of Gare de l'Est. The No 5 metro line roughly parallels it from Quai de la Rapee to Gare de l'Est and the No 7 line from there to Porte de la Villette. The section between Bastille and roughly Republique is covered by a park so you will not see it but will be walking in a park above it. There are several locks along it and the street bridges have an interesting swing mechanism for when the canal boats pass through. There are also several bronze step bridges for pedestrians. At Stalingrad on the No 7 line, there is a wider section called the Basin de la Villette. Near Porte de la Villette is Cite des Sciences et l'Industrie-la Geode, a science and technology museum.
Canauxrama indicates they operate year round, so contact them here
Canauxrama offers canal cruises in November, but not every day. I'd suggest the Canal St Martin cruise if you really want to do one in November. Dress warmly, it was cold on the cruise i went on in July 2011.
