Hi, we’re taking my 80+ year-old parents to Paris in September. One of their bucket list items is a cancan cabaret. We’re looking for suggestions of a venue that has easy access or few stairs, and is tourist friendly. Thank you, Mary
Never been but French friends say Moulin Rouge is a really good show and worth seeing even though it's touristy.
Thank you!
I would recommend the ones on the list. All other ones are a big grimmy.
Thank you for these good suggestions.
I wouldn’t describe the Moulin Rouge as “grimy” in the least, yet it’s not on the list laffite linked. That link looks like advertising to me and doesn’t identify who wrote it.
The Moulin Rouge is classy and tame, with just a few topless women amidst 20 others that are not topless. It’s like a Vegas show. It was appropriate for my 11 yr old son and it was fun. They did do the Can-Can.
I saw a video of recent Moulin Rouge show on You Tube, I think, and it looked pretty good to me!
I think it is the kind of historic show and venue that your parents would appreciate.
I went to the Lido about 12 years ago and it was the brilliant, really good evening. Always heard the Moulin Rouge should be avoided, big tourist trap and really shabby, you could see the sequins falling off!!!
Please note that what Caro wrote about the Moulin Rouge is hearsay, not based on experience. From a documentary I’ve seen twice on French TV about the auditions, rehearsals, costumes, behind-the-scene work and productions at the Moulin Rouges, I was very impressed. But I have never been there or to any others.
Not heresay, first hand accounrs from friends
Thank you to all for these good suggestions. My parents will decide between Lido de Paris with it’s easier Champs Elysee access, and Moulin Rouge with its history and Montmartre (hilly-yikes!) atmosphere. Thankfully, my parents are realistic as well as intrepid. Wish us luck.
Merci!

caro, that’s what hearsay is. If you aren’t speaking from experience, just repeating what someone told you, it is hearsay.
mgordon, whichever show you all go to, enjoy!
If you do go to the Moulin Rouge, you can take a taxi right to the door, so don't let the fact that that Montmartre is hilly put you off.
That’s a good tip Harold. Just fyi, the Moulin Rouge area is not hilly.
Thank you, we’re on our way.

For what its worth in my opinion topless dancers are not appropriate for a 11 year old today, yesterday, 30 yrs ago, or tomorrow- whether its 3 dancers, 1, or 20- but thats just me. Many travel sites state that the Moulin Rouge is overpriced, shabby, touristy, and not worth it - but since Ive never been I cannot say- however I do take into consideration all the forums recommendations when making plans to travel. :)
Crazy Horse all the way. If you want something more risque then Chochotte...more broadway than Lido.
LOL, Demi Hale. I guess you are not a proponent of the "Free the Nipple" movement. By the time a child in France is 11, I'll bet they have seen their fair share of topless women. Never mind having to go to the beach to see that, this past June while walking home from a restaurant in Belleville on a hot Sunday afternoon, I saw several topless (female) sunbathers and tons of families with children (several of the children were completely naked and splashing in the fountains) in Parc de Belleville. No one seemed to care one way or the other. I was appalled not by the nudity but by how dirty the water was that people were letting their children play in.
Demi Hale, There is less emphasis on size and silicone in Europe. All women are considered beautiful with different qualities. Besides, there is no way dancers could move the way they do if they were enhanced to obsessional levels. The exposed chests aren’t a big deal. Your eyes are on the 20-lb feather headdresses.
Our concern when topless women were on a cabaret show on TV5Monde wasn’t for our sons’ exposure, but what their school friends would report back to their US parents about watching TV in our house.
