Paris BVA Airport

Hi,

I'm considering a flight from Paris BVA to Rome on Ryan Air. It's a Sunday morning flight at 9:15am.

I see that BVA airport is about 85km from Paris center, so I'm wondering what sort of taxi or Uber options there might be on a Sunday morning. Is this something I should worry about, or will I be able to find a taxi?

Second, I'm traveling with 4 people, and there are flights from CDG and ORY for about $100 more for the four of us. Would I save money on the taxi going to one of these airports instead? (and hassle)

Thank you!

Of course take the flights that actually get you to Paris! $100 is not worth the extra time, hassle and expense that you'll reap by flying into BVA. Just don't do it.

Despite years of criticism, RyanAir still deceptively lists Beauvais as Paris, even though it is hours away. I can't even find the connection information on the RyanAir website anymore, but they used to show the dedicated bus to Beauvais leaving northern Paris (Porte Maillot) three hours before flight time (6:15 for a 9:15 flight). You can easily get from Paris to Orly or CDG using the commuter rail system.

You would definitely save hassle and go from Orly by EasyJet.

I definitely agree with Tim's advice.

If you do decide to fly via Ryan Air, you must read all the small print & be aware of their luggage limits.
You may end up paying more (due to extra luggage charges) than you'd expect.

There is a shuttle bus system leaving from Porte Maillot that connects Paris to BVA. The shuttle costs €17 person over age 3 if purchased at bus and €15.90 if purchased online. You would have to be at Porte Maillot about three hours before your flight's departure and the trip takes about 75 minutes, assuming no traffic delays. You can get more information at http://www.aeroportbeauvais.com/bus.php?lang=eng. Is that $100 more per person or $100 all in for the flights from Orly and CDG? Taxis to CDG and Orly now have flat rates for airport trips. Depending on where you are staying Paris, the trip to Orly will be either €30 or €35 and the trip to CDG will be either €50 or €55. I can't recall right now if there are still fees for baggage placed in the trunk. Many people think that flying out of Beauvais is not worth it but depending on the savings, it might be for you especially going to Rome where getting to Rome from CIA is not significantly more difficult than getting there from FCO.

I agree with Lee. Save yourself the time, money and aggravation of having to travel to Beauvais and use an easyJet flight from Paris / ORY instead. You can easily reach ORY via several methods, and one of the easiest is the RER "B" to Antony station and then the automated OrlyVal people mover to the the airport. I believe there's also a Bus - check the ORY website for all the options.

You will spend almost the entire $100 difference just in getting to Beauvais on the bus that goes there from Porte Maillot (@$17 per person x 4). A taxi out there would cost a fortune, I can't even imagine. Add to that the time needed to get out there, the hassles of flying Ryan Air, and there is literally no savings. Go from CDG or Orly.

I like Ryanair.. have used them before.. and am using them again this spring.. but I never use them for Paris.. they just suck by using Beauvais.

As everyone has basically said.. save the hassle.. use either Orly or Charles de Gaulle.

In addition to the hassle of Beauvais there is the other end as well.

Almost all other airlines use the main Rome airport FCO. Most people will know how to get back and forth from there, either Terravision bus, Leonardo Express train (both bus and train to Termini) or taxi.

Ryanair because they are Ryanair say that a flight from Paris to Rome is Beauvais to Ciampino. Ciampino may be a little closer but it is certainly the little brother, and there is no rail connection.

Nothing wrong with Ryanair - you get what you (don't) pay for and NOTHING more - but they are sometimes really silly bu**ers on their airports.

Add EVERYthing up and see if you are still ahead.

It is a little long, but if you have a little more time a train from Paris to Rome is quite nice. One of our regular contributors here, Laurel in Rome, has a blog which speaks about their recent night trains on that route which sounds really good.

www.skyscanner.com shows that Vueling competes with easyJet on the run to FCO. You can also find tickets from Air France, British Air and Italia but those are actually on the Vueling flight. Ryanair's reputation is damaged by the airports it uses under the guise of connecting Paris to Rome because on many routes it is a good choice.

We always use Vueling or Easyjet from Paris to other European destinations; they are cheap and have easier luggage policies (pretty much like those of legacy airlines although they enforce more closely) And these airlines use Orly and CDG sometimes both. For 100 more for 4 it would frankly be nuts to have to get to Beauvais and any savings would be mostly sucked up in transport and more than sucked up in hassle. It will cost you 30 or 35 for a cab for 4 to Orly -- no baggage charges.
