so many sites and what to choose! is there an official site for paris bus pass? we're travelling from a monday to monday in a few weeks, i have a child under age 11 with me. we are getting the oyster card in london, looking for the same offered in paris. official sites appreciated. we have tickets for eiffel tower and versailles, so those are zones that must be included. many thanks.
Big bus or l open for hop n hop. You can buy daily travel cards or longer ones at metro station which is valid for respective zones in city bus or metro. going to versailles would require arnd 8 euro return ticket as it is in zone 5 and probably u dont need to purchase upto zone 5 travel cards. Do some more googling n u shuld be gud to go
Google Navigo Decouverte. It is a pass for zones 1 - 5 and costs 22.80€ - a bargain - plus 5€ for the set up kit - and is valid Monday thru Sunday. You will need to take a small photo of yourself, about 1 x 1 1/4 inch. Nothing fancy. You can copy your passport or drivers license picture and print on plain paper. Not sure how that will work for your daughter, but the website should help you out there.
Thank you!
The ND will cover the Roissybus but you have to go to the RER station to get the pass. It is the only pass of value. There is no child's pass but the ND is so cheap that doesn't matter. The Paris Visite for a child for 5 days costs more than this pass. FWIW child tickets on the metro are only for those 4-9, so if you buy ordinary tickets the child is an adult for travel anyway. The ND covers all of the Ile de France and is supremely convenient if it fits our dates. There is no Oyster card equivalent i.e. that holds a charge and is paid out with travel; the ND is a true pass -- it is unlimited for the time period charged on it. If there are three of you traveling, I'd definitely take a cab.
If you take a cab which is only 50 or 55 from the airport, or don't want to bother at the airport, you can get the ND at any metro station. You buy it on the machine, take the receipt to the information window to get the kid, assemble the kit and then charge it on the machine. The information clerk can help you if you have problems and can probably even sell it to you with a credit card (they don't generally sell things and don't handle money)
I'm confused. Are two questions here, from one or two different posters? Is barbara the same person as naomilisa4evr or completely different?
IN my experience chip/sig cards (the obsolete format American banks have adopted) will work in the metro machines, at the Louvre, sometimes at rail stations, and sometimes at toll booths on the highway. We had a car for a month last fall and the cards worked fine on toll booths in the south run by davinci but not on those just south of Paris and at least one toll station had no manned booth and no way to pay with cash.
But yeah, the cards will work on the metro. The machine will ask for the pin and you just wait or hit continue and it works. I charged two NDs for a month each that way. I suspect they only work up to a certain value -- the monthly charge was something like 80 Euro.
I cannot remember if they worked on any gas pumps. We usually gas up on the road at highway rest stops which have manned sales stations.
Nigel- no, it would seem that there are 2 separate posters. Barbara jumped into and sort of took over the thread after the OP posted the initial question. Apparently the OP found her answer with Carolyn's post.
Barbra - there are machines that print tickets for the Roissy Bus under the shelters.
If you only need one-way, it's 8.30 EU. Otherwise it's more.
They take coins, notes and credit cards.
RER - Auber across the street from Galeries Lafayette
RER - Opera on rue Scribe
Auber or Opera would probably be the closest to you.
RER - at round-about at Mouton-Devernet
RER - at Invalides
RER - at Nation
RER - Chatelet
...and many more to choose from, though some RER B stations will be closed for work.
I did jump in. Is that wrong?
When you tag on with a new question, the OP gets email notifications long after they have had their question answered, usually indicated with a quick sign off message like. "Thanks, I got it."
Nothing wrong with starting a new topic, even if the questions are similar. That way, you can get email notifications when you get answers.
I keep getting emails yes and I've been deleting them but I am going to stop getting notifications now. The benefit of starting your own post is that for me, I won't have to leave my own post to stop getting notifications. I would have liked to keep this post about me and my travels, especially since I'm at the airport and ready to go right now today. I have to sift through your questions now and see which is for me or you, Barbara. But help yourself. I will start a new one.
I actually can't stop notifications on my little iPhone. So I guess I'm stuck with the thread. Oh well.
Barbara -- a monthly pass is for a calendar month. It is usually break even with weekly charges at least if you are there 3 weeks out of the month. If you are there June 15 - July 15, a monthly pass is not a good choice as you would have to buy two months -- 4 weeks and patching the gaps will be more cost effective.

Naomi, if the notifications are really bothering you, look at the bottom of your OP. You'll see a delete option.
No worries I've done it too.
