They are annoying and research shows they are mainly used by people who would have previously walked or taken a bus so there aren’t huge environmental benefits. If anything, they’re making people take less exercise.

I know a lot of people find them very convenient but they are mainly used by young, fit people and they have the effect of making life harder for those who already find navigating the city difficult - disabled or partially sighted people, elderly people who’s buses are going slower because scooters are in the bus lane.

So glad. We have had kids careless nearly run into us -- it feels like just a matter of time before some 12 year old gives one of us a broken hip. And they are left lying about. My husband tripped over one lying at Trocadero -- it was dark and it was just lying in the square. I tripped over one similarly in Santa Monica on the beach board walk a few years ago. People who choose to use them seem unusually irresponsible and careless both in what they do with them and how they use them on sidewalks with pedestrians.

Outlawed where I live after months of hundreds of scooters left haphazardly everywhere. What an eyesore and a dangerous inconvenience for ambulatory individuals and bike riders. Glad they are gone.
