Paris at Christmas - bad idea this close to Olympic prep and all the construction?

We have been to Paris over a dozen times, and love it each trip. We have never been at Christmas time. We are going to meet up with family that is working in the UAE, and wondered if it's worth trying to do Christmas in Paris, or find somewhere else to spend the holidays? Any suggestions welcome!

Don't think Olympic prep should dissuade you.

Great time to be in Paris, one of my favorite times of the year there.

Been there over Christmas and it was magical! I doubt that any Olympic preparations will affect you. On Christmas Day, most restaurants will be closed. Splurge on Christmas dinner at Le Train Bleu in the Gare de Lyon and get transported back to the Belle Epoque!

We went to different Olympic cities the years before the games, huge mistake. There was a lot of construction going on all over the cities. Now we tend to visit the after the Olympics when those improvements are still fresh!

I'd go...but Paris is a favorite for me! I was there in April and there were quite a few things under scaffold BUT there is so much to see in Paris that it did not impact my enjoyment one iota. If you are away from the areas where there will be sports venues you'll not even realize anything is going on.

I have not been there at Christmas time but it's on my list - lights, special windows in the big department stores, what's not to love?

Pam, we both seem to have a great love of Paris! I was last there in October, and a lot was going on. I can only imagine how it is now. The saddest thing for me is all the barriers over the last few years around the Eiffel Tower. So many of the iconic landmarks are constantly in change. We may still go - would love to see it at Christmas time. We've done Germany at Christmas which was quite magical, Italy, but never Paris!!

Yes, little did any of us imagine in the days you could walk under the ET and just stand there that it would be blocked off. Totally understandable for safety reasons but unimaginable then!

I watched so many youtube/FB video clips last year of people walking around in the Christmas atmosphere that it really made me long to be there!!
