Paris as a base, Normandy tour and Lisieux

I will be in Paris for only 4 nights, then 2 nights ?? and 4 nights in Nice. Advise on whether or not to stay in the Normandy area for my 2 questionable nights or do a day trip from Paris. My friend would also like to go to Lisieux for a day. Both of these destinations are for personal reasons and advise to not go there will be appreciated but somehow we have to go. So with that being said; should we use our 2 free nights to stay in the Normandy area? My research suggests a day tour from Paris to the Normandy/Omaha beach area is approximately 14 hours. If I rented a car we could stop in Lisieux for a few hours then go to Omaha beach/museums for the majority of the day and early evening, and drive back to Paris. That is about 6 hours of driving in one day ugh? :( Not sure we want to do that. Hummm did I answer my own question? Realizing there is so much to see in Paris most will be missed on this trip. We arrive on Sept. 14 and fly from Nice back home on Sept 23. Additionally, advice on how to get from one destination to another would also be helpful. Plane - Train or Automobile :)

Hopefully I will win a lot of money and can plan another trip without restrictions..

Thank you all for you advise.

Hi, our last trip to Normandy we were on a tour bus and were in the area for only two days (one night in Caen). Could not see very much in that time. (Omaha beach, the cemetery and Point du Hoc,Memorial museum in Caen, and castle ). We are going in May and have reserved 8 days in that region. We are doing a full day tour of the beaches, a full day cheese and cider tour and of course visiting the cathedral in Lisieux , along with many other points of interest. You definitely can do what you are describing especially with a rental car. I would spend the two nights in Caen, you can get to the beaches and Bayeux very easily by car. Caen has a big museum but takes a lot of time to see. But there is so much to see , you definitely will not be able to take it all in with that short of a stay. Also make sure you get to the cemetery at Omaha beach. Good luck and enjoy.

If it were me, I would take a morning train from Paris to Caen, then rent a car and drive to Lisieux. You'd have to backtrack toward Normandy, but I still think that would be better than driving from Paris. Then move on to Normandy in the afternoon, spending a night probably in Bayeux (two would be better, depending on what you have on your list to see and if you'll be spending a lot of time IN museums) You could spend most of the next day in Normandy and then return the car in the late afternoon and return to Paris by train.
