Paris area with Grandsons in mid-20's with Grandmother

Where would you stay, i.e. Montmartre or Latin Quarter or? As there will be 3 of us in one room, which hotel would you recommend? Thinking of the end of October/24 for 4 nights and as I'm treating them on a limited budget so any information would be greatly appreciated. Under 300Euros per night total if possible?
Thank you,

Jean

Hi Jean -
Could you share the month/year of this trip, your per-night budget, and number of nights? Obviously dates near the Paris Olympics (Jul 26-Aug 11, 2024) are affecting hotel rates and availability.

The number of nights could also be a factor as if you're staying long enough to average out extra fees, such as cleaning, which are often attached to apartments, those may be another option and allow you a bit more elbow room. That would also allow you to stretch the budget by eating some meals 'in'. If interested, some of the gang could likely recommend some short-term flat rentals that are legal under Paris law.

Sorry, should have mentioned that; thinking of end of October for 4 nights. I'd like to keep it under 300 Euros per night total; if this is possible?

Thank you,

Jean

Are you wanting a triple room (that is, three separate beds)? Many hotels will put two people in a shared bed with an extra twin or a sofa bed. Not sure if your mid-20s grandsons would be enthusiastic about that arrangement. You can search on Booking.com for three people in one room, then filter results for rooms with just twin beds. That budget might not get you terribly far in central Paris, but I did a dummy search on Booking and there were some ok options just over 300 euro per night.

I would be inclined to look for a single and a double rather than putting three adults into one room with only one bathroom. If I were the granny, I'd take the single and give the grandsons a room with two twin beds.

But that's me.

Check booking.com. And see if Hotel Clement, https://www.hotel-clement.com/ , has anything suitable. It's generally very inexpensive for central Paris.

Well, this is a treat for my grandsons and I would like a double for them & single for me; if they're not inclined to share then I won't take them. I'm not an old granny, but am on a limited budget!

You could also look at the Citadines Aparthotels. We had friends who stayed at the one by Bastille--very convenient location and they were pleased.

jeanhol,
Montmartre is hilly and steep. Although I am happy to visit it once when in Paris, I wouldn't want to be going up and down all the time because that is where I am staying. My knees are new, but the rest of me is 80 years old and doesn't relish the effort Montmartre requires.

Hi Judy, I'm so glad you said this; I'm not much younger than you with a bad back, stairs going up & down kill me! I do plan to hire a golf cart with driver to tour us around...

Thank you,'

It is great you are gifting such a wonderful trip to your grandsons.
I stayed at Hotel Clement in 2022 and can recommend it. It was recommended by someone on the forum (maybe Tocard?) Affordable for a budget single traveler. Walkable to many sights; metro and bus stops close by. There is a tiny elevator after walking up three steps. My single room had a double bed. You book a single for yourself and a twin room for your grandsons. https://en.hotel-clement.com/

"I do plan to hire a golf cart with driver to tour us around..." I think that is a joke, right?
It is going to take a little work to find two rooms in the 300€ budget but it will be worth the effort because a triple for three adults is IMO a non-starter: the rooms are just too small and there is the whole "one double bed and one single bed" thing that is common in triple rooms. I say get a quad if you want to all stay in one room so you get a double bed and two twin beds. Take a look at Hotel des Mines on Blvd Saint Michel. It's a good location. I have not stayed there. I have only walked through but it looked good and could be in budget for two rooms or for their quad which has a double bed and 2 twins.

jeanhol,
I do hope, as JHK said, that the whole golf cart thing is a joke. That is a nonstarter. in a city as old as Paris with many narrow cobblestone streets. Bikes, yes; golf carts, no.

JHK & July; I've checked this out and it's legit; had to cancel during covid so planning it again: https://www.tuktukride.com/en/
As I have a pinched spinal cord and stenosis I haven't much choice as I can only walk a short distance before having to stop to release the pain and this looks good to me!

Except their website says they are closed for all of 2024 due to the Olympics, so will not be available in October this year.

Well, okay then. I was picturing a golf cart like the ones I see here in Florida.

we Winter in Florida and this year we took a cruise that stopped in Key West; the four of us rented a "Golf Cart" that seated us with both seats facing the way we drove it. Before criticizing someone ideas, please check it out; as I said I booked this Co. in Paris but had to cancel due to Covid; that was years ago so this "Golf Cart" tour has been around in several European Countries for some time!!!

"I think that is a joke, right?" is what I call a critical response without checking this out; as I said these cart tours have been around for years....
I've also had a response telling me not to stay in Montmartre so heeding her advice I'm checking elsewhere.

I just want to take my grandsons on a memorable trip to remember me by and being a senior on a fixed budget I'm looking to have a nice trip within this budget.

Jean, while I haven't stayed here personally, I'm seeing very good reviews and rates for a triple room that might work for you at Paris Bastille on booking.com. Enter your own dates: don't use the random dates I plugged in.

https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/hotel-paris-bastille.html?label=gen173nr-1BCAsoTUIUaG90ZWwtcGFyaXMtYmFzdGlsbGVIMVgEaKUCiAEBmAExuAEHyAEN2AEB6AEBiAIBqAIDuALm-9OxBsACAdICJGE5ZGMzOTMxLWY4MTAtNGM3Mi04M2VmLTg2MTZiODEwM2I4YdgCBeACAQ&sid=b5538d79e1c5ff88866daf0e786e2053&dist=0&group_adults=3&group_children=0&keep_landing=1&no_rooms=1&sb_price_type=total&type=total&

See if the "Triple Room Save Planet No Cleaning" is available for your dates; that might allow you to add breakfast to 3 of your mornings, and I don't think daily cleaning is an absolute necessity. Otherwise, I'm looking at no-breakfast rates; pick up some pastries & fruit to munch in the room. My one concern is luggage space for 3 people; I'd encourage you all to travel light and as compactly as possible! :O)

Location is close-in; it has an elevator; free cancellation up to a reasonable date. A single bathroom for the 3 of you doesn't bother me as families larger than 3 share a single bath at practically all hotels here in the US. I'm still hoping someone can recommend an apartment that might work, tho.

Hi Kathy, this sounds perfect and yes we're family so one private bath is good as is 3 single beds. Don't know much about the location but looks good too.
With adult grandsons, would prefer no daily cleaning; easier to just leave to tour without hassles...

The problem with an apt. is that you have to pay up front and you can't cancel without paying 100%.

Thank you,

Jean

Try this place, Hotel Suez, it’s nothing fancy but I stayed there a couple of times several years ago (mostly do apartments now). It is clean, convenient (relatively close to a couple of metro stops which I always think important, though I have come to appreciate the bus system too) and in the 5th. Their breakfasts were good, but having it included does add quite a bit to the cost of the room. If you act sooner than later it looks like it is within your budget.
