Any suggestions for antique shops and flea markets in Paris that are still open and in business? We will be traveling in spring 2024. Thank you.
Most everyone knows about St. Ouen and Vanves, so I'll throw out a lesser known one. The Village St. Paul. It's down the r. St. Paul from the r. St. Antoine just east of the St. Paul Métro station. Fun place to poke around.
Thank you - just trying to confirm what is still open and operational - so much has closed.
I can't think of any difference at St-Ouen or Vanves, and the little brocantes still come through the neighborhoods.
Sometimes the best thing to do is keep your eyes open on some of the kiosks for signs for vide greniers or brocantes. They may even be hand-written.
And there used to be a huge brocante in the Fall near Bastille. I don't know if they still do it or not.
all my bargains have been at vide greniers. I have a watch with a decco design that was made just at the time battery watches became available. Bought it for 10 Euro and the guy insisted it would run with a new battery. I put a battery in it and it has been running now perfectly for 15 years and I love it. I also bought an interesting necklace of bakelite fruits and leaves for 5 Euro and a greek key sort of color necklace that is perfect for turtlenecks. This past year I bought 4 nice wavy glass Champagne flutes with gold rims at a neighborhood vide grenier in Batignolles and they are perfect. We always do Champagne for aperitif when entertaining at home and these are a perfect addition to the collection of varied flutes. (cost me more for the kitchen storage boxes I used to transport them home in my luggage than the 15 Euro I paid for the glasses.
For greatest variety St. Ouen on Saturday or Sunday is best. But I have never seen a bargain. Lots of very gorgeous pricey antiques there.
Like janettravels, I’ve got some lovely small items for 5-10 euros over the years in Paris: Vanves and Aligre mostly, but random pop-up flea markets, too: art deco bracelets, watch, candle holders …
At Aligne in a sea of black clothes, jackets and coats, there was a gorgeous red coat calling my name for $10US. I live in a warm beach town so had no use for the coat but could not leave it! The coat is in absolutely perfect condition, from reading and investigating the Russian label it was made before 1960, cashmere and as I travel to Europe for a month in March and November, I do it so I can wear my coat! Lucky me!
